“How long until we can bring them home?” I ask.

“A month, maybe two,” Zeke answers, and the four of us just stand there, wrapped up in each other, as the full weight of it settles in—our whole world is about to change.

“God, I’m going to be even more outnumbered.” Addie sniffles, laughing through her tears. “I can’t wait to see them in their little jerseys when I bring them to your games.”

Two sons cheering us on with their beautiful mom—yeah, I can definitely get used to that picture. Tiny hands clapping from the stands, Addie pointing us out on the ice and teaching them which numbers to look for as we skate by. The thought of it makes my chest tight with something I can’t even name, but I want every second of it.

I look at the three people I’d walk through fire for, and I still can’t believe we’re about to add to this love, making space for two tiny heartbeats that already belong to us.

Not born of our blood but meant for us all the same.

Five hearts.

Five pieces of my soul.

And every single one owns me in a way I never want back.
