My eyes shot open as a devious smile tugged at my lips. I was alone. Ihadn’t gotten myself off since days before the wedding, maybeevenweeks.
Atthatrealization, my core clenched. Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, Iclosed my eyes again and moved the shower head back between my legs, allowing all thoughts of the night ahead to leave me, replaced by images of hands touching my body. Lips kissing their way down my jaw, my neck, to my breasts, and sucking a nipple.
Not just anyone’s hands or lips either.
My husband’s.
Keeping the powerful stream aimed at my clit, I reached up with my otherhand and pinched my nipple, gasping at the bolt of pain and pleasurethatzipped through me.
In my head, I wasn’t in the shower. I was on a stage, with eyes watching meas Miles lowered himself to his knees and hooked a leg over his shoulder. His mouth kissed the soft skin of the inside of my thigh, teasing me with light grazes of his teeth.
My breathing turned to pants as pressure grew in my core, my climaxgathering momentum. Until a creak of floorboards had my eyes flying open and my movements stilling.
In the steamed-up mirror, my gaze clashed with a familiar set of eyes, onlyinstead of them filled with their usual contempt, they were filled with something else.
Something I’d seen in the same eyes four years ago.
Chapter 13
Miles
Kai rubbed a thumb over his bottom lip as he read over the papers I’dshoved in front of him. It was the first time I’d shared my thoughts with him, having spent the last few days deep in the dark web collating the information I needed.
I wish I could say it had been a good distraction from the woman whoconsumed my thoughts, but seeing as this involved her, it pushed her front and center of my mind.
“You’re right. It’s suss as fuck,”Kai said, laying the papers on his desk. Ihummed my agreement, his sentiments echoing my own when I’d discovered Georgio had met with Alejandro Perez in the few days before mine and Sofia’s wedding.
It had been months since the cartel made their threat against Sofia, yetnothing had happened. Well, there was the attempt by Adrian Powell, but I wasn’t convinced he was working for the cartel. Ash was still digging, but he hadn’t found any links as of yet.
Which led me to thinkthatGeorgio had negotiated a deal with the cartel toend their feud, and something in the pit of my stomach told methatwhatever deal he had made wasn’t a good one.
“There’s no way the cartel would have rescinded their threat against Sofia ifBianchi hadn’t offered them something worth their while,”Kaicontinued, agreeing with my assessment.“Interestingthathe’s had three meetings with the Herrera 2IC without Rafe present. What’s he hiding from Junior?”
“Your guess is as good as mine.”
Kai stroked a hand down his tie, a trait he’d picked up from his assholefather.“Maybe we should have a word with young Raphael. Find out if he knows what daddy is up to.”
I smirked. Kai had hated Rafe from the minute Riley turned to him after learning of Kai's deceit. She hadn’t helped the situation in the daysthatfollowed by blatantly flirting with Rafe to rattle Kai.
But the feeling was mutual. Rafe hated Kai, and the only reason the two ofthem hadn’t tried to kill the other was because of the fucking agreement between us and the Bianchis. An agreement I was pretty certain Georgio had every intention of breaking at the first opportunity, especiallyif he had made a truce with the cartel.
“I couldn’t agree more with you,”I replied, meeting Kai’s calculating eyes.
I didn’t hate Rafe, but I didn’t like him either, so I wasn’t going tomiss out on the opportunity to interrogate the little shit.
“Kai!”a familiar voice sang from outside the office.
A frown creased my brow. The only reason I’d met Kai at his place wasbecause I knew Riley had gone out with Sofia for the day, and we could talk freely. It looked as though the shopping trip had been cut short. I grabbed the papers off his desk and folded them before shoving them in myjacket pocket. Riley didn’t know about the shit with the cartel, and we planned on keeping itthatway.
“In here, Star,” Kai called, giving me his‘not a word’look.
My lips pursed as the door opened and Riley poked her head around. Seeingthatit was me with Kai and she wasn’t disturbing a meeting, shestrolled in, giving me a conspiratorial smilethatinstantly had my instincts on alert.
“Hey, Miles,”she crooned, allowing Kai to pull her into his lap, his armssliding around her waist as he buried his head in the crook of her neck and inhaled.
A pang of envy speared me. The two of them couldn’t keep their hands offeach other, and until recently, it was something I’d never been bothered about. Itseemedthatwas another thing in my lifethathad changed.
“How was shopping, baby?”Kai asked, kissing her nose.
