Grant’s laugh was just a rush of air. “You’re going to have to tell me what that means.”

“Y-okay.” I meant to sayyeah, okaybut words were complicated.

Hell, breathing was complicated.

But this?

What I had with Grant?

It was turning out to be remarkably easy.

“Coffee or milk?”

I opened one eye to peek up at where Grant stood in the doorway to his bedroom. “What?”

He had a tray in his hands as he came toward me. “We didn’t eat our dessert last night so I thought we could have it for breakfast.”

I groaned. “How in the hell is it morning already?”

“Time flies when you’re having fun, Jules.” He gave me a wink that warmed up parts of me that needed to take a break. “Here.” He set down the tray. It had two cups of coffee, two of the desserts from last night, and a small glass of milk on top of it. “Eat whatever you want.”

I worked my way up to as much of a sitting position as I could manage as Grant went into his closet. “So you come with a mattress from heaven and breakfast in bed?”

He came out to shoot me a grin as he pulled on a pale green shirt that matched the lizards printed on his navy pants. “And suspenders.”

“That’s just mean.” I picked up the paler of the two coffees and took a long sip.

“It’s strategic.” He came out with the suspenders in question and went to work fastening them to his pants as he came toward the bed to drop a kiss on my forehead. “We’ve got a half an hour before we have to leave so eat up. I’m going to go check in with my mother.”

I sat in the middle of the bed for a good ten minutes after he left, managing to eat half the lava cake he’d rewarmed and three quarters of what turned out to be the best carrot cake I’d ever had.

That left me with twenty minutes to shower, shave and poop. Not necessarily in that order.

By the time I walked out into the kitchen I was lighter, caffeinated and scrubbed clean.

And feeling pretty darn ready to take on the day.

Until I noticed the slight bulge in Grant’s lizard pants.

And it wasn’t from the lizard in his pants.

“What’s in your pocket?”

His lips slowly lifted at the edges, sending my heart racing and my blood pumping. “You know exactly what’s in my pocket, Jules.”

Chapter Twenty-Two

Grant

“GOOD MORNING, MR. SERVANTES.”

I nodded my assistant’s way as I walked through the front door of the office space we’d shared for almost six months. “Good morning, Helen.” I gave her a smile. “How are you?”

Her brows came together. “I’m fine.” She turned in her chair, eyes following me as I passed her desk. “How are you?”

“I’m also fine.” I went into my office, leaving the door open as I crossed to the desk that dominated the space and set down my bag, unzipping it to pull out my laptop.
