Unless he wasn’t on the box.
“If they’re not on it then who is?”
I chewed my lower lip.
There was only one possibility that I could think of.
And if I was right then this whole issue was about to get a lot easier.

“YOU’RE SURE YOU want to do this?” Andrew sat in the driver’s seat of my Jeep, looking back at Sweet Side Federal in the rearview mirror. “What if you’re wrong?”
“If I’m wrong then we’re screwed anyway because I have no idea who else would be on that box.” I held my purse close as I tried to work up the balls to get out.
What I wouldn’t give to have Elaine at my side right now.
She would just march right in there with her easy smile and smooth talking and no one would bat an eye.
“You don’t have to do this. We can think of something else.” Andrew grabbed the gear shift.
“No.” I opened the door. “We’re doing this now.”
I was tired of waiting. Tired of watching the garden fall farther and farther into disarray while the two men in charge ran around, using their dicks like compasses.
I jumped out before Andrew could drive away, shutting the door on his continued arguments about why we should come up with a plan B.
For once plan A didn’t involve arson, so I figured that was a good sign.
We were going with plan A.
I shoved my shoulders back and sucked in a breath of morning air as I put one foot in front of the other, marching my way toward the bank exactly like I’d watched Helen do yesterday.
The air inside was cool and quiet.
One man stood in line, waiting for the teller to finish with the woman at her window.
Did I go to the tellers? Was there someone else in charge of the safety deposit boxes?
Maybe I wasn’t as prepared for this as I thought I was.
I started to turn around, ready to make a hasty retreat, but my escape was stopped by a pretty woman about my age. She flashed me a smile, revealing a tiny gap between her front teeth. “Can I help you?”
I meant to say no. Explain that I’d forgotten something in my car.
Instead my brain went on autopilot.
“I need to get into my safety deposit box.” I held the key up between us. “Please.”
So much for being like Elaine.
At least I said please while I was fucking everything up.
“Of course.” The woman turned toward a set of heavy doors.
I looked from side to side.
Was I supposed to follow her?
