Cam brightened at that prospect.“You could be right,” he mused.“She didn’t run screaming in terror when she saw me naked, either. That has to count for something.”

“You’ll win her over,” Amaros predicted.

Camriel’s confidence was shaken, but he was determined not to fail again.“Thanks, brother,” he said, grateful for his commander’s support.

He carried the container with prime cuts of venison back to the girls. They’d donned their long winter coats for the trek around the lake.

“We’ll follow behind you, but keep our distance,” Amaros decided. He didn’t want to leave the females vulnerable, especially when he hadn’t scanned the newcomer yet.He couldn’t allow any of the cambions to join their group until he’d determined the state of their souls. His knights could tell whether people were good or evil, but they didn’t have his innate skill to sense how deep the darkness went.

“I hope Cam didn’t scare Victoria away,” Grace said as the females left first.

“She’s still here,” Zoe told her, apparently getting one of her hunches.“It might take some explaining to get her to understand Cam’s approach, though,” she added.

They looked over their shoulders at him in disapproval, making him feel like an idiot all over again. The knights hung back and followed the females at a distance.Camriel relaxed when they were close enough for him to sense his mate more strongly.Victoria hadn’t fled, which proved just how brave she was.He couldn’t wait to get to know her and prove that he was the knight for her.

Chapter Twenty-Six

––––––––

ZOE WAS TRYING TO FIGUREout what to say to Victoria. She was still coming to terms with everything herself.Explaining their heritage to another cambion was going to be a challenge.

“Do you know what you’re going to say to her?”Grace asked. The teen was looking forward to this meeting. She was hoping to pick up some tips about what to expect from her own bond when her knight arrived.

“Nope,” Zoe admitted.“I’m going to wing it.”

“Awesome,” Grace said with a smirk.“No plan it is, then.”

They sensed the other cambion when they neared the far end of the lake.“She’s coming to meet us,” Zoe said when she saw a tall female step out of the trees.“And she’s armed,” she added, holding her empty hand up to show she had peaceful intentions.

“That’s a wicked looking reaping hook,” Grace said enviously.“I wonder how many heads she’s chopped off with it so far.”

“Lots,” Victoria said, proving she could hear them just fine.Planting her feet widely apart, she gave them a challenging stare. They came to a stop a safe distance away.“So, you’re the aliens’ concubines?”she asked.

Grace examined the female, wondering where she’d seen her before.“You look really familiar,” she said, ignoring the question.Taking in her height, size, short black hair and dark olive skin, it clicked.“You’re Victory, the pro wrestler!”she exclaimed in delight.“Do that thing where you whirl me around over your head!”she demanded, then raced towards the wrestler.

“Gracelyn!”Zoe shouted, but it was already too late. The cambion snatched her tiny friend up and hefted her over her head. The kid shrieked with laughter as she was spun wildly in a circle, tri-colored hair blowing everywhere.
