“You’ll have to, darling,” Ronny said. “You cannot help anyone or change the world for the better if you’re too tired to think straight.”

“Right!” I said, beaming at Ronny. He really was a genius sometimes.

“You two are so full of shit. I wasn’t myself just now, I’ll admit that. I did mean the thing about breaking up with you, not that there really was a relationship to begin with. I just went along with it because I thought it would help the case. It’s not like I care about two entitled immortals who won’t take no for a fucking answer. Iusedyou, nothing more.”

Our boyfriend was not a very good liar.

“Darling…” Ronny said, but this time around, I knew what to do.

“How about a deal then?” I said. Ronny shot me a flat look. I ignored him.

Chandler looked up from his food, which had to be getting cold, so I heated it with a dash of magic.

“Fine. Speak,” our boyfriend said. He couldn’t quite hold my gaze, and I reached out to cup his cheek.

This was perfect. He was going to love us after this.

“You are going to let us take care of your every need, and we will help you with this police case and every case after that,” I said.

He sighed that heavy sigh again, sounding so tired. “You will take…you’ll get to care for me until midnight. You’ll help with this case and every case after I invite you to help me with.”

I frowned and glanced over at Ronny for help, but of course if Ronny spoke, he’d be directly bound into the deal, and we both knew that this way, he’d have a convenient loophole to disregard it since technically, it was between Chandler and me. Ronny lifted his eyebrows and mouthedpush him.

“Baby, that would be an uneven deal,” I said, which was bullshit, but the situation was dire, and even I knew white lies were okay with humans. “How about this? You let us spoil you with food and drink and comfort until midnight, and we help you with every future case you need help with while we fully support you and the Brunswick police team for this case?”

It was unnecessarily wordy, but he’d left the “take care of his every need” part by the wayside, so I got to shift the terms on my end too, meaning we wouldn’t be limited when it came to taking care of his every need at all. The paraphrasing about the crime solving was arguably unnecessary. Maybe even over the top. Of course he’d needsomeone’shelp with every case, and given that, it was an open door for us to then also stick around. I simply enjoyed the crime solving too much not to.

I braced for him to shift back into a bartering mood, but he just nodded. “Yeah, fine. Deal.”

Ronny and I exchanged a quick smile.

I tipped Chandler’s chin up with a finger. “We’ll have to seal it with a kiss, baby. Don’t be scared, I’m a really great kisser. Let me take care of you.”

“Fine,” he said again.

This was our first kiss because kissing his cock didn’t really count. The magic of the deal bound us the moment our lips connected, but I followed the flow of my magic with my hand, sliding it from his waist to his hip and from there to the small of his back where I placed it over his spine. His lips opened the smallest fraction, and I waited instead of pushing forward like I wanted, pulled back slightly only to connect our mouths again just as Ronny ran his fingers up into Chandler’s hair from the base of his scalp.

Our boyfriend liked that. He moaned a little, and when that sound ebbed, it was he who tasted me with the tip of his tongue.

I got hard so fast I felt the blood rush downward, lightheadedness ambushing me. I fisted his shirt at his back, and it took everything to just hold back and stay where I was while Chandler gradually kissed me deeper.

He was also good at this, as it turned out. His eyes had fallen closed, and he justdid, as if he allowed himself to let go of something after everything that had happened today, just a small indulgence.

And yet, for me, in this moment, it was huge. It felt right and perfect, and I didn’t doubt that I could kiss those lips each day for all of forever and never grow tired of it.

“You look glorious together, but I’d prefer you not give the rest of the patrons too much of a show,” Ronny said.

I reluctantly pulled back, and when Chandler blinked his eyes open, his pupils were dilated. His puffy lips made me hurt for more, my cock yearning to be free.

“Ronny is right, baby,” I said to Chandler. “We don’t want others wanting you.”

When he held me trapped in his gaze, I felt the perfect moment between us, a brief one in which he wasn’t sad or trying to ditch Ronny and me. I was still uncertain of why he’d really wanted to run away from us, especially after Ronny and I had done everything to make our perfect love triangle work, but potentially, the more time one spent with his human boyfriend, the better one would understand him.

“We should go,” Ronny said.

“Any chance we could head back to the crime scenes?” Chandler asked.

“Not a one, darling. Hermes, you have settled our bill?”
