“You want to get out of here?” He asks, voice hoarse and trembling like he’s one breath away from unraveling right where he’s standing.
I nod, asking Finley, “Ready to go home?”
She glimpses up at me, then quickly over her shoulder at Jayden. It’s obvious she’s looking for an answer to what happens now.
What just happened—the line we just crossed, can’t be uncrossed.
Not for her. Not for me. Not for him.
We’re in this together now. And I don’t know what that means.
“Don’t think too hard, Lucky,” he tells her, pressing a kiss to her temple. “You want Eli and?—”
“I want you, too,” she retorts brusquely, desperation cracking her voice.
Jayden’s gaze flashes to mine as though he’s waiting for me to say something. To know what to do now that we’re here.
I don’t.
“I need you,” Finley tells him, twisting in my hold so she can face him. Her hand cups his jaw, and while I watch her thumb rake across the shadow along it, a pang of jealousy echoes in my chest. The itch to touch him pulses on my fingertips when she glances back at me and says, “And I need you.”
The instant her other hand hooks around my neck, everything changes with the current that runs through us.
I know that the choice we make now will change our lives forever.
As uncertain as I am of how we do this, there isn’t a single doubt in my mind as I grip Finley’s hand and tell them, “Let’s go.”
CHAPTER 47
FINLEY
Every couple of seconds my stare flits to the rearview mirror. When it catches on Jayden’s, my chest squeezes tight around my lungs, making it impossible to breathe past the hammering of my heart.
The radio in the background fills the silence while Elijah drives us home. Our fingers are laced together on the center console while Jayden’s leaning forward, his head between the seats while he controls the music with one hand. The other casually trails over my shoulder, dipping beneath my hair as his fingertips rake across my nape.
I swallow hard, silencing the purr at the back of my throat when he tugs at my hair. Gently at first, like a reminder that he’s still there. Still waiting. Still wanting.
Like I could forget when I’m all of those things—here, waiting, wanting.
Dying.
It feels like forever has gone by when we arrive. The elevator is already waiting, and the instant we walk inside, Eli presses the button for our floor.
“You're sure about this? You, me, and Eli?” Jayden asks when I bury my face in the crook of his neck, and he lifts me up into his arms.
Nodding, I breathe him in deep as I meet Eli's stare. His fingers brush my hair from my face right before Jayden presses a tender kiss to my forehead.
It’s so natural. The way they are so in sync even when they’re touching me.
“I’m sure.”
The doors ping open and Jayden carries me straight to his door with Elijah in step.
My heart is hammering as Elijah helps Jayden open the door and as we go inside, I take his hand in mine. Lacing our fingers together so he knows that I want this with him. I don't let go, not even when Jayden sets me down on the kitchen island with a quick peck to the tip of my nose.
He’s so giving with his affection that I reach out to grab his suit jacket before he makes it too far from me and give him a gentle tug back.
For a moment our stares hold, lingering in the anticipation of why I pulled him back to me. Why I’m still holding on to Elijah. Of what I want.
