All at once, I realized I’d never beenbeneathhim before—never felt all this stacked muscle and pure power handling me like I belonged tohim.

I could get behind this idea.

I’d established my role as a dominant top long before Butch came along, but just for a moment, I considered what it would feel like to be the one owned for a change—by this man specifically.

Maybe even in front of it...

“You found me,” he gasped as he came up for air. “That’s exactly what it felt like when we met—like I’d beenfound.”

I gripped his perfect face in my hands, feeling my sad rusty heart rattle to life again. “That's right, baby. I found you, I made you mine, and I’m going to keep you forever.”

And anyone who thinks otherwise will die.

Butch stared down at me with such a vulnerable expression, I felt that same heart crack wide open to match.

“That easy, huh?” he whispered.

“That easy,” I replied, without hesitation.

Another ripple of intoxicating power passed between us, and I fought to stay focused. “So where didyouhear about this wholeinventusthing?”

Butch frowned. “My mother, actually—right before I flew to your family’s house to apologize. She explained it’s what you call two equally strong supes who can create a closed circuit of power together. They’re perfectly matched and undefeatable once they fully bond, which I’m assuming we did already, since you used my powers to get us out of Apocalypto Man’s lair.”

His gaze darkened. “Other supes try to kill one or both of them before that power-sharing happens… like my father apparently did to my mother’sinventus, sohecould claim her instead.”

What the actual fuck?!

My stomach flipped. This was much bigger than Butch being a runaway groom, or scandalously shacking up with a villain who had a cock. This wasn’t even about aligning powerful families with backroom betrothals. Vortexio wasn’t just playing the game…

He’s playing to win.

A fractured memory arose from the chaos of yesterday. “Didn’t my parents mention your mother during that shitshow in the workshop? Something about Smoldering Siren losing someone namedFranco?”

“Franco…” Butch muttered before sitting up and pulling me along with him as his excitement grew. “I know that name! When I took you to the USN archives, I snuck off to research whether heroes and villains could marry each other…”

Butch abruptly snapped his mouth shut and turned the most delectable shade of red. The revelation that he'dalsobeen looking for ways we could legally be together made me feel something I rarely had before.

Happiness.

Deciding to give my hottie himbo a break from my teasing, I smiled conspiratorially. “I was secretly doing the same research while we were there,” I stage-whispered. “Only I still thought you were a normie, so I struck out on my end. Supposedly, our supercharged dicks are hazardous to a fragile human’s health.”

He shyly peeked at me through his eyelashes, tempting me to destroy his supersuit again. “I know. I saw you,” he murmured before sighing heavily. “Shoot, Xan, I should have justtoldyou who I was right after that dinner. There’s so much I wish I’d done differently with this entire situation. Instead, I kept messing things up—”

It was my turn to silence him with a kiss. “None of that. Yes, you’ve made some…recklessdecisions.” I paused to give him the stern look I knew he loved. “But you’re what… 22 years old? Fuck, I’m surprised I’m still alive with the shit I was doing in my twenties, and that waswithouthaving the weight of an entire city on my shoulders. You’re fucking amazing, Butch, and I’m going to tell you that every damn day until you believe it.”

Since none of these other assholes bothered to.

He tried to drop his head, so I gripped his chin, forcing him to look at me. “That being said, I’m incredibly thankful I was at my family’s compound when you flew there in full supe mode. Even more so that I got you out of there alive. From now on, wediscussmajor decisions first, so we can make a plan—together. It’s you and me, and everyone else can go fuck themselves. Sound good?”

Those goddamn dimples appeared as he tried not to smile. “Yes, Daddy.”

“Good boy,” I purred, running my fingers through his soft hair. “Now tell me about your clandestine research on this Franco character.”

He laughed and rose to retrieve his phone across the room. “Well, I didn’t look too closely because I was trying to be sneaky, but I took photos of everything that was in the file.”

Plopping back down onto the couch, he held the phone where I could see it and began scrolling through his photos. The documents covered a confidential court case from around 25 years ago, where an ex-villain named Franco Marisi was suing Big City for the right to marry a superhero named Tabitha Arella.

“Is Tabitha your mother?” I carefully asked, not wanting to upset him.
