The ambulance was just pulling in when they arrived.They had his leg in a splint because they’d told him that they thought it might be broken.As he was rushed off to have tests done on his head and leg, the three of them waited in his room.It was going to be a long night, he thought, and asked Sammy what she wanted to do about their mother pushing their father down the stairs.
“We’ll wait and see what he wants to do.They might have been having a fight, and that’s what happened, or he could have tripped thinking that Mom pushed him.There are just too many things that could be wrong about this.Don’t you think?”He agreed with Sammy, and Justine said it was something that their mother did when she was upset.Just shove someone down; it didn’t matter if it was stairs or not, she’d just push a person down to prove her point.Whatever that was.
His leg was indeed broken, and it was starting to pain him quite a bit when he got back from X-ray.As they were giving him something for pain, he started telling them what they’d been talking about when she got mad.Melbourne said that he was afraid something like this would happen; he was just glad that he’d given him a cell phone so that he could call 911.Otherwise, there would have been no way to know how much longer he would have been lying there bleeding and in pain.
“I don’t know where she was when I left the place.I was unconscious for some time, I think.”Sammy asked her dad if he thought that she pushed him or had she just fallen into him when he was near the stairs.“No, she pushed me.I remember hearing her laughing and saying that would teach meto disagree with her.I’d forgotten about that part of her.She didn’t like to be told no either.”
“It’ll be fine.We’ll take care of everything.”Justine startled her by saying that to their dad, and she wondered if her feelings had changed.“You just concentrate on getting better, and we’ll make sure that you’re safe.”
“Thank you both so much for coming in tonight.”He cried himself to sleep; the drugs were finally making his pain a lot more bearable.As he laid there on the gurney, Sammy wondered where her mother was.Not that she cared if she was all right, but just so she’d not hurt her dad anymore.Things about her mom were coming out that she didn’t think she cared about right now.
Sammy told her sister about the house that she was buying with Melbourne.Justine seemed to be excited about it, but she did worry that they’d not known one another very long, and she wondered if this was the right thing to do.After assuring her that she thought she would fall in love with Melbourne soon, Justine just nodded.She didn’t need her to be negative right now, and it was getting on her nerves.
“If you’re moving out of your condo, do you think that they’d care if I moved into yours?You have those lovely front windows that I love, as well as that small room off from the bedroom.It would be the perfect size for me to do my work in.Not big enough for a full office, but enough for what I need it for.”She said they could ask, knowing that it would be a done deal if that was what she really wanted.“I could sell my condo, then give you the money for yours if that’s all right.I really love those front windows that you have that look out over the front lawn.”
“It’s doubtful that anyone would care so long as we didn’t.”She said that would be great, and Sammy wondered if it was time for her to tell her sister that she owned the entire place.After she did, her sister stared at her.“I’ve owned it for a good long time.Even before you moved in, so if it would help you, I’ve enough money now that you could live in either place for free from now on.”
“That’s a lot of money that I’d not be paying for a condo.Can you really afford that?”She said that since she was buying a house with Melbourne, she had extra cash as he was wealthy enough to afford to pay cash for the house they were buying.“I heard that they all have money and wondered what would happen when you moved out.I guess you hit the jackpot.”
“I did in that he says that he’s falling in love with me.”Justine just sat there, not saying anything else, and Sammy let her.If she was mad, she was all right with that, too.It had been a big secret to keep from her, and she might well have been mad too if the roles were reversed.When Dad woke up, he told them the same story about how Mom had pushed him down the stairs and how he’d hit his head pretty hard.“You should call the police.”
“Oh, I don’t know.Won’t that make her madder?I don’t need her to be pissy with me right now while I’m healing.”Sammy said that it was better than him being dead at the bottom of the stairs.“I actually thought of that when I was going down.How I didn’t want to die while falling down when I’d just gotten myself a place to stay and my daughters were talking to me.”
“I think you should think about it, Allen.If she thinks she can get by with it this time, there is no telling what she’ll do in the future.Besides that, she left you on the stairs to die, and that’s not a good thing.”Dad said he’d think about it when he wasn’t in so much pain.“They said you can have more before they put you in a cast.I’ll even go out and tell them that you’re ready for some more pain medication.”
Dad fell asleep again after the meds were given to him.The nurse said it was a good thing that it was knocking him out so that he’d be rested when he went home in a couple of days.His leg was broken in two places, the doctor had said, and that he wasn’t going to be able to be alone until he could get around better.Melbourne said he’d take care that he had care someplace that he’d like.
Sammy couldn’t believe how much Melbourne was doing for her dad.He’d given him a job and found him a place to live.When Dad had asked about the hospital stay, he’d also told him that it would be taken care of, too, as he worked for him.Dad couldn’t have been working for him that long, yet Melbourne said that he had insurance as well as paid time off.She was really beginning to like her new mate if he was this nice to near strangers.

It didn’t take long for them to have things just the way he needed them to be.Melbourne had put Allen in his condo and had hired a staff to take care of him.Even though the thought of being homeless himself, Melbourne thought that this was the best solution that they could all live with.He was taken care of, and no one was out of their own lives, making sure that Allen was all right.
The offer on the house was approved, and they now owned a home.All they had to do now was outfit it into a house with furniture, then they’d be set.He had made arrangements to take Sammy on a shopping spree on Tuesday, which was in two more days.It was the only day that she could get off from the restaurant, and they were going to spend the entire day getting what they needed to be able to move into the house right away.It was empty but for the furniture that had been used to set up the house so that it didn’t look empty, and that should only take them a day or two to get out.
“I’ve made a list of things that we have to have to move in.Most of it’s stuff for the bedrooms and the living room.I know we don’t need the living room right away, but to be honest with you, I’d like a place I can go to after work and just chill.My living room was a makeshift office for when I worked from home on Mondays and Thursdays.”Sammy looked up at him.“How did I get so lucky in finding you when I didn’t know that I needed you?”
“We were both just lucky, I guess.”He kissed her on the nose, and she smiled at him.“I could live off your smiles at me for a long time.You’re very beautiful when you look at me like that.”
“I have a queen-sized bed at my condo that’s not getting much use right now.”He told her he was sorry for keeping her up so late talking.“I meant that we could go there and have some sex later if you want.I’m sick of waiting around for the right moment to have sex with you.If you’re willing, that is.”
“Willing?I’d say I’ve been willing since I met you.”She laughed, and he told her that he was serious.“I’ve fallen in love with you since the day I met you.And each day that I’m with you means that I’ve fallen in love with you more.”
“I love you too.I didn’t think it was possible, but I woke up this morning and thought of all the things you’ve done for me in keeping me safe and that of my family.It’s more to it than that, but I wanted you to know that I’ve never been so happy as I am right now.”He kissed her again, deepening the kiss so that she could tell how much he loved her.Pulling her into his arms, he pulled her body flush to his and let her know his body when she was near him.Lifting his head, he decided that he was going to make love to her all night if he could.She was his everything.
It took them for what seemed forever to get back to her condo.They would stop every few steps and kiss or hold one another.It was the most romantic walk he’d ever taken with someone.Especially not his brothers, he thought with a laugh.Holding her hand as he drove, he hated to let it go when he had to shift gears.There was just so much warmth in her body that he found that he didn’t want to let her go, even for a second.
Her condo was bigger than his in that the living room was attached to a dining area.He had an eat-in kitchen that he didn’t use all that much, but it was there when he needed to clean up after a meal that he had brought home from work.He was glad that he had a service come in once a week to clean up after him, or it might well have not worked out with Allen living there.So far, it was going well for the older man.
Once they were at the condo, however, they both kind of went their separate ways, in that they seemed embarrassed about being there just to have sex.He asked her about her place, and she told him that it was a done deal that her sister was going to take her place over her own.
“She loves the windows.”He said that he could enjoy them too, but they let in a lot of sunlight.“That’s the problem I had with them.They made a glare on the television when I would try to watch it.Finally, I just took the thing to my bedroom and watched what I wanted in there.Which, as you can well imagine, wasn’t all that often.”
“Yes, I understand.I rarely watch television at my place for about the same reasons.Not the glare, but the lack of room on the walls for it to hang.I got sick of it being on my coffee table all thetime, so I just stopped watching it.I usually end up at one of my brother’s homes when I want to watch something like a game.They usually have a lot of food too when they’re having me over.”She asked him if that was why he was excited to have them over to their home.“It is.So that I can return the favor of watching television with them.And of course, have a nice spread of food.”
“You guys do eat a lot.I’ve noticed that you usually have a couple of meals each when you go out.That’s a lot of food.”He said that they were a lot of dragon.“I’d like to see him someday.Speaking of which, I’ve a dragon like you told me that I would.He’s on my back most of the time.I’m glad you told me about him.I might well have freaked out worse than I did when I felt him moving on my body.”
“He’s there to protect you from harm.Once we have sex and bond, then he’ll be bigger and be able to lift you out of situations where you might well be harmed.”She said that she was glad for that.“I am as well.Even though you’re immortal, you can still be hurt, and that wouldn’t be good to have to live with whatever happened if you were to be hurt badly.”
