No. There will be no anticipating anything with this asshole.“I’m no longer yourproblem.”
“Wewere supposed to have a date tonight,” Noah said. Oh, yeah, he was completely off-the-range jealous.
Why? It didn’t make sense.
“I don’t remember having anything about you and me on my calendar. Can whatever has a burr up your ass wait until another time? I’m busy.” She cast her date an apologetic smile.
“Now works best for me. It’s important.” He held his hand out to her date. “I’m Noah Harrison.”
Her date didn’t know who he was. “You want me to ask him to leave, Tori?”
Noah’s focus rolled from her date back to her. “First date?”
“Yes.”
“Going better than ours went?”
“Everything was rip roaring awesome until you crashed.” She’d gone a little too heavy on the sarcasm.
“We need to get things straight between us.” Noah leaned close to her.
She gripped her hands tight in her lap. “Whatthingsare you talking about? We had two dates. That’s hardly what I’d label as anus. We’re done. I am no longer something you need tohandle.” The reality of him here hit her. “How’d you know where to find me here?” She unleashed a string of mental curses. “Emma.”
Or he could’ve had the FBI track her on the button device. She’d forgotten it was inside her jacket.Oh, crap…the FBI.That’s probably why he was here. She wasn’t done with her side of the deal.
“Whatever is going on here isn’t going.” Noah’s gaze darted to her date. “Now, you and I, we’re going.”
What a great line. If only it was true.
Her date’s scowl didn’t bode well.
“How would you know my date with…?” Her mind blanked on her date’s name.
“Paul,” her date supplied.
“I knew that. How would you know whether or not Paul and I were sharing a connection?” She asked. “My life doesn’t revolve around you.”
Paul pushed his chair back as if he was about to get up. “Noah, you should leave.”
“Hold on, hotshot. This is between Tori and I.” Noah held a hand to Paul and faced her. “We need to talk. Maybe in private. I only need a few minutes.”
Her breath stilled while her heart continued to race. A mixture of unparalleled attraction and fury electrified her. And scared her. This man already annihilated her heart. Yet, he stood here acting like he was still into her. Maybe this was a show for the FBI Fake Date Operation. He had to be the greatest actor of all time.
Her date interrupted, “Are you dating this guy, Tori?”
She met Paul’s gaze briefly and wanted to bark, catch the fuck upbut figured it’d be rude. “We had two dates. I’m not sure we could call that serious dating, but, yes, we’ve been out.”
“Oh, we’ve been more thanout.” The angles of Noah’s jaw sharpened. A flare of vulnerability, possibly hurt, skittered through his eyes, which squeezed her heart. Then his striking face molded into indifference. He slapped a business card onto the table next to her. “Jake wants to see you in the office tomorrow. Ten a.m. We’re going to discuss our plans forDragon Spy. It needs work to get it fully 3-D and maybe even virtual reality ready, but we like the concept and the twists. We also want to discuss you running the project to get it ready for launch.”
What?
He wasnothere about them as an us. It was about him. Oh. My. God. They liked her game!
She sat up straighter. “Jake liked it? No, scratch that. I made myself clear yesterday, didn’t I?”
Noah leaned in to whisper in her ear. “I’m not into sharing. I’m leaving before I show you just how not good at sharing I can be.” Louder he said, “Enjoy yourdate.”
Noah stormed out without a backwards glance.
