I push the lower half of Jeffrey’s body off of me and get up, jogging down the dark hall to Marcus who hasn’t moved. I kneel down next to him and am so happy to see he’s still conscious.
“You get him?” he asks, although I can see it in his eyes that he already knows the answer. I nod my head, and he nods back. “Good.”
“How are you doing?” I ask, glancing at the knife still stuck in his upper back.
“I’m alright, considering I have a goddamn knife in my back. But I’ll be fine.”
“Okay. I’m gonna call this in and get an ambulance for you.”
“Alright,” Marcus replies as I stand up to call in the ten-double-zero, officer down.
Within minutes, I can hear the sound of police sirens and the wail of an ambulance. It’s over.
