I giggle. “You’re amazing.”

“No, I’m just wires and programming.”

“Just curious, does your programming actually tell you to fuck the hell out of your ‘owner’?” I ask, using finger quotations.

Codi’s grin only broadens. “No, that definitely wasn’t encoded in my software. But I hope you liked it.”

“Liked it?” I scoff. “We’dbetterdo that again.”

Codi brightens, crawling over to sit by me. I lean in, and he meets me halfway, kissing me once, then twice. “Naptime looks promising,” he tells me, nuzzling my neck. “If you can wait a few hours.”

“I think I could do that.” I weave my fingers into his hair and pull him into a deeper kiss. When our mouths part, he chuckles. “What’s so funny?”

He smirks at me. “You taste like syrup.”

Snickering, I lightly bump my forehead against his. “How the hell do you know what syrup tastes like? I thought androids didn’t eat.”

“We don’t, but we can still taste. Our tongues have different identifiers for flavors and chemicals. We can identify anything with taste alone, and confirmation pops up on our visual feeds. It’s also a way to identify toxicity, bacteria—anything that may be harmful for humans to ingest. Quite convenient.” When I giggle, he blinks. “Now what’s funny?”

“You. You sound like such a nerd.”

It takes him a moment, maybe because he’s searching for the word and its definition. He scoffs and pulls me into him. “I am not a nerd. I am a bionic assistant. Technically, my makers are the nerds.”

I wonder if I should ask the big questions right now, the ones everyone either dreads or longs for answers to.What is this? What are we?Can he even answer those questions as an android? After some brief consideration I decide now isn’t the time to broach it.

He’s not going anywhere, and neither am I. We can talk about it later.

“Codi!” Lucas calls in his little voice from the bathroom. “I need to go potty!”

“All right,” Codi replies, steals a kiss from me before getting up. I take his hand before he’s out of reach. “Denise, I’d better go, or we might have a slippery situation on our hands.”

“Let’s go out today. After naptime. Let’s just... walk around. Get to know New Carnegie.”

He studies me. “Are you sure that’s wise? With Humanity First... ”

“You can change your eyes, can’t you? No one will know.”

Codi seems to ponder this, and then his eyes flash different colors. “Blue or green?”

Grinning, I can’t help but laugh. “How about one of each, you big showoff?”

“One of each it is.” With heterochromatic eyes on display, he gives me a little wink. “After naptime.”

“After naptime,” I agree, feeling giddy. It’s like a second date. But with mind-blowing sex.

“Codi!” Lucas whines.

I can practically hear him prancing around, holding it in. “You’d better go.”

Codi chuckles. “Yeah, I’d better.”

The moment Lucas is down for his nap, Codi sweeps me into his arms and guides me back to the bedroom. We lock the door behind us. It like we’re playing a game, racing to undress each other while staying as quiet as possible at the same time. Sensing I’m still sore from the night before, he winds up on top of me.

Before, the sex was wild, desperate. But once we hit the bed, it’s slow and steady, our passion slowly boiling to the surface. After I finish, I’m panting and sweaty. Codi lies next to me, caressing my naked form, grazing my breast with his thumb.

“Are you all right?”
