Kai and Eli look at one another, gaze locking. “Yes,” Eli breaths out.
“So much yes,” Kai groans.
“Good. Let’s start now.” The laugh that leaves me is like one that leaves the mouth of a villain in a Disney movie. I take two hands and scoop up snow, making a half-ass snowball before throwing it at the both of them.
I catch them off guard, the snow bursting against Eli’s chest and the side of Kai’s head.
They just sit there, stunned.
And then they both snap into action.
I let out a high-pitched scream, laughing as I start to run away.
Happiness and joy replace the shitty feelings from before as the two of them start throwing snowballs my way.
For the next half hour, we run around the front yard, ducking behind the rental cars and trees to avoid getting hit.

Happy. Really happy. At least, I’d like to believe so.
Giving him a matching smile, I reach for him. He huffs out a small laugh and takes my hand, bringing it up to his mouth. He presses a kiss to the back and gives me a wink.
Even though this trip had some not-so-happy moments, I’m glad to be leaving tomorrow in better spirits and that overall, it was a good time with memories I’ll treasure forever.
Still. Whatever is going on with Owen, I want to figure it out. There’s no way I’m letting it go.
