“Huh?” I look over at him, taking my eyes off Laney’s sleeping form curled up in her seat.

“Your pants.” He nods down. I look and groan. In my haste to get new pants, I grabbed my PJ pants. A pair Logan got me for Christmas last year. They have little baseballs with faces and appendages.

“Thanks.” My cheeks heat, a small laugh escaping. “It’s all I had that was clean.” I shrug.

“Huh.” He slowly nods his head, a smile forming on his lips.

“What?” I frown.

“Could have sworn you were in sweatpants this morning when I got up to pee and saw you packing. What happened to them?. You get them dirty or something?”

My lips part as I stare at him like a deer caught in the headlights. “Uh... I... Ahh.”

He shifts, his big body leaning in towards me. “Next time, baby boy, just come in. You don’t have to join us. But don’t feel like you have to stand on the sidelines and watch from the shadows.”

“Okay,” I breathe out, giving myself away, but what else can I say? He saw me. He knew. And he’s not mad?

Any shame I felt watching the two of them leaves me, replaced with this need.

Now, I regret not walking in like I wanted to.

“Next time,” I whisper in agreement, but I look away, my cheeks on fire.

“Mmhhm. I’d like that.”

He places his hand on my thigh, giving it a squeeze. My heart swells, and happiness takes over. We don’t talk, just enjoy each other's company for the rest of the flight.

We land and drive back home. At the house, Kai says goodbye to Laney, and as he turns to leave, he pauses in front of me. Looking around, he makes sure no one else is around. “Only because I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable. Not because I want to hide us,” is all he says before he grips the back of my head and pulls me in for a kiss that has my head spinning, my knees growing weak, and my body growing hot. “Goodbye, sweet boy,” he murmurs against my lips. “Oh, and Eli?”

“Y-yes?” I rasp out.

“Unblock me, please?”

My eyes widen. “Of course."

“Good.” He smiles. “See you later, baby.” He winks, leaving me standing there stunned.

My hand raises to my lips; they still tingle from his kiss.

As I make my way to my room in a daze, I flop back onto my bed and stare up at the ceiling.

Is this what it feels like when you have your first crush? If so, I hate that I missed out on it. This is thrilling, addicting. But I’m also glad I didn’t have it with anyone other than these two.

Smiling like an idiot to no one but myself, I grab my phone and quickly unblock Kai’s number.

Me: Hi.

I watch as the dots bounce around, anticipation taking hold of me.

Micah: Hey, sweet boy. Glad you’re back.

I frown at his name and quickly go into his contact to change it.

Me: Sorry I left.

Kai: It’s okay. Just don’t again, yeah?

I chew on my lower lip, eyes filling with tears.
