“I’m done with you,” Logan mutters, pulling me out from under Justin’s arm. “Touch her again and lose the arm.”

“Damn, he’s feisty in the morning,” Justin chuckles. “I think someone needs to get laid,” Justin singsongs the last word before looking at me. “You doing my boy dirty, Laney Girl?”

“No, Justin,” I chuckle. “I’m treating your boy just fine.”

“Yeah, you are,” Justin teases. “That’s my girl.”

“Not your girl,” Logan snaps.

“Huh. Maybe go another round. A good dick sucking always puts me in a better mood.”

“Okay, we’re done here.” Logan grabs my hand, pulling me towards the school.

Me? I’m laughing my ass off, pure happiness making me all giddy. Yeah, I needed this.

A few hours later, Winter and I are in photography club.

“New assignments for a new semester,” the Mr. White says. He goes on listing off who’s being assigned to which team. “Winter, you are covering the baseball team.”

Disappointment hits me. I wanted the baseball team. It would have meant I could see Eli more. Although right now, they’re not in season, so I guess there wouldn’t be much to do until April.

“Delaney, you're covering the hockey team. Winter, if you’d like, you can help Delaney with that as they’re deep into their season right now, and we need all the help we can get.”

Huh. Guess I’ll be seeing at least one of the Cross brothers.

“Hockey,” Winter hums. “Could be fun.”

“Yeah, lots of fun,” I sigh, leaning back in my seat. “Can’t wait to be around someone who seems to hate me.”

“He doesn’t hate you.” Winter frowns.

“Could have fooled me. I don’t get it, Win. When I first got here, he was so headstrong on us being something. He seemed like he really liked me, made it known for sure. The moments we spent together were electrifying, the start to something that could have become amazing. And now? It’s like he’s changed his mind.”

“Did something happen?”

“I don’t know.” I throw my hands up. “He seemed excited for the trip. But as soon as we got there, he bitched the whole time. And I get it, he’s used to the sun and warm weather. Snow isn’t his thing, but he knew there would be snow. I told him to packfor it. Then he kept getting phone calls, and when I asked who it was, he told me no one. But with each one, his mood would grow more and more foul.”

“That’s so strange."

“I know, right? Maybe it is school and hockey. He’s struggling. And I get it. I sympathize with that. And I want to help him. Be there for him because I do care about him. A lot. But at the same time, if he’s going to ignore me and ghost me, then why should I look like an idiot by chasing after him? I have three men head over heels for me. Maybe I should just face the fact that Owen and I might not be a thing.”

“You could.” Winter nods. “But before you make any big decisions, maybe you should talk it out with Owen. Get everything out on the table. No bullshit.”

“Yeah,” I agree. “Would be nice. But that means the asshole has to talk to me.”

“Right.” She nods, giving me a pitying look. “I’m sorry, babe. I wish I could be more help. I could track him down and kick his ass for you?”

“Thanks,” I laugh. “But I’m good.”

“Just tell me if you change your mind and I’ll make it happen!” She grins.

“Will do.”

Class ends, and the school day is over. When I get back home, I’m tired and ready to relax and maybe crawl into bed early.

Owen has been on my mind all day. I haven’t seen him in a few days, really, just glimpses of him coming and going. Nothing long enough to get his attention.

“Look who’s home!” Mom cheers.
