“Uhh.” I can’t help but laugh. “His name is Bentley.”
“Whatever.” She waves me off.Is this bitch for real right now?“You think you can just take her man?”
“Logan was never hers.” Anger starts to seep into me. “She can’t tell me or him what to do.”
“So, taking her man isn’t good enough?” Misty ignores me. “You have to fuck his brother too?” She shakes her head. “A fucking slut is what you are.”
“Oh, it’s not just those two. She’s fucking Professor Krane, too. I saw the two of them kissing this morning.” Britt smirks, like she’s proud of herself.
“Really?” Laura, the third girl, says. “Wow, you really are a whore. Is that how you’re passing? Sucking your professor’s cock?”
“No,” I snark back. “I’m passing because I’m smart and know the work. Can’t say the same about you. And who are you to talk? Pretty sure I saw you behind the science building last summer on your knees with Professor Clark’s cock down your throat. But you don’t see me throwing that in your face.” Okay, I am now, but still.
Her cheeks grow red. “You're lying.”
“Sure.” I nod. “Look, I’m not here to fight, okay? Just leave me alone. Go live your life and stop worrying about mine.” I try to pass them, but Britt grabs my arm.
“Watch yourself, Delaney. You seem to forget who runs this town. But don’t worry, you’re going to be reminded very soon.”
I don't like the smile she’s giving me. Her words give me this sinking feeling in my stomach.
Did she mean that Stacy’s father wasn’t done causing trouble? Or was she just saying it in hopes that it would scare me off for her friend?
Either way, it’s not a good thing.
Ripping my arm out of her hold, I get in her face. “And you seem to forget who my family is. Don’t fuck with me, Britt. I’m done taking shit from mean bitches like you. I’m sorry you hate your life and want to find happiness from other people’s misery, but you're not going to get that from me. So fuck off.”
I’m fuming as I storm out of the bathroom. Too worked up to go to my next class, I decide to go home.
Mom is there watching Benny. She can see something is wrong, but thankfully doesn’t ask.
I spend the next hour cuddling my baby boy, breathing in his intoxicating baby smell, and letting his little giggles and smiles settle me.
This is what matters. This is all that matters. Everyone else is just a bump in the road that can be worked around. As long as I have my men, my family, my friends, and my little boy, I’ll be okay.
Chapter 16
Owen
My head is pounding, and my body feels like I’m pushing my way through sludge as my temper is getting the best of me.
I’m off my game, fucking everything up, and it’s only practice.
“Cross!” Coach barks as I miss the puck from what should have been an easy pass.
My anger rises as I skid to a stop. Ripping off my helmet, I toss it at the bench before ripping off my gloves next.
“What the fuck has gotten into you?” Coach hisses. “The game is in a few hours, and you’re playing worse than a fucking five-year-old.”
I know. I fucking know.I want to scream at him. I’ve been in a foul mood all day. Fuck that, since before Christmas.
And having my teammates ribbing me about my brothers and their new girlfriend, our stepsister, was the last fucking thing I needed today.
Why the fuck did Eli and Logan have to make their relationship with Laney public? They should have fucking kept it to themselves. Now, not only do I have to see them with her at home, but at school too.
It could be you, too. If you just pulled your head out of your ass and told her the truth.
But I can’t tell her. I can’t fucking tell anyone because if I do, the people I care about could get hurt. And I’ve vowed not to let this hurt my family. And that now includes Laney.
