Maybe it’s just the intensity of how much she cares for me.
Kai looks at me, and I know he wants to say so much, but he bites his tongue. We will get our moment together. For now, I just want to hang out with these two and enjoy having them back in my arms.
Chapter 24
Delaney
“How should we celebrate?” Eli asks as we make our way out to the car.
Excited energy flows through the group of us after Eli’s team just won their baseball game.
Seeing Eli smile, knowing that he’s truly happy, even after everything he’s been through last week, is a blessing.
Getting the news from James about the monsters getting arrested had me wanting to do a fucking backflip.
It’s not something that's going to be taken care of overnight, but it’s the first step to Eli’s healing and getting the justice he deserves, so that's a start.
And having Kai out and with us where he belongs is another weight off my shoulders. I’m grateful for Logan and my mom being the strength I needed to hold my shit together for Eli and having to deal with the stress of Kai being locked up behind bars, unsure if I was ever going to see him again.
“Hey, Eli!” someone calls for him. We stop and look over to see a group from Eli’s team.
“Hey, man. What's up?”
“You coming to the party tonight?” the guy asks him.
“Ahh.” He looks at our group, which consists of me, Kai, Logan, and Winter.
“Yeah, man.” Logan gives him one of those bro hugs. “We’ll be there.”
“Awesome,” he laughs. “It’s at Justin’s place, see you there.”
“Justin’s?” Winter’s eyes widen. “Like as in our Justin?”
“Winnie,” Logan bumps her shoulder teasingly. “You consider Justin yours? He would die of happiness if he heard you say that.”
“That's not what I meant,” she huffs, shooting my boyfriend a glare that makes him laugh.
I have no idea what's going on between those two. Winter says they’re not together, but they flirt all the time. They’ve talked about their feelings, but because all of this is new for the both of them, they decided to take things slow, get to know each other better.
It’s a good idea if you ask me. No one really dates anymore or takes the time to get to know one another before making things serious.
No one does, except me, as I made these poor men work for it for months. Worth it though.
“Are we really going to a party?” Eli frowns.
“You don’t wanna go?” I ask. He’s never been one for parties, but maybe trying new things might be good.
“You never go to team parties. You should. This is your win, too,” Winter suggests.
“You just wanna go because it's at your new boy toy’s place.” Eli grins.
“Do not,” Winter grumbles. She does so, and it’s cute.
“Go.” Kai pulls Eli into him, placing a kiss on his head before letting him go. There are a lot of students and parents around, and with him getting arrested, people have been talking. “Have fun.”
“What about you?” Eli asks.
“I have a meeting with the dean of the school, and then after that, I have to go see my mom and talk to my lawyers.”
