Weeks pass, and there’s no sign of Owen.
We’ve all tried to call, but they went to voicemail. Texts unread. By the end of the first week, his number was disconnected.
James has people looking for him, but no one has seen him around.
He hasn’t been to school, and none of his friends on the team have seen him.
We’re all a mess, worried about where he is.
My biggest worry was whether he was safe or out there somewhere dead.
I haven’t been able to sleep, eating is a fight, and I’ve never felt so depressed in my life.
Logan, me, and Eli are hanging out in the backyard, trying to put on a brave face for our sweet little Benny when Logan gets a call.
“Hey. What’s up?” Logan answers. I’m not sure who he’s talking to, but there’s a furrow in his brow. “What? Where?” Logan pauses to listen. “And you’re sure it’s him?” another pause. “Shit. Yeah, okay. We’re on our way.”
He hangs up, running a hand through his hair.
“Who was that?” Eli asks.
“Justin.” He looks up at us. “He’s out with some friends, at this club in the next town over. He said Owen’s there.”
“What!” I jump to my feet. “Really? We have to go there.”
Logan shakes his head. “You’re not going anywhere.”
“The fuck I’m not,” I growl. “Logan Cross, if you even try to fight me on this, I will lose my shit.”
Logan frowns, looking like he wants to argue, but thankfully, he’s picking his battles. Smart man.
“Fine,” he sighs. “But you stay with us. It’s not exactly the best kind of place to be.”
“Let’s go.” Eli gets to his feet.
“I’ll see if Melissa can watch Benny.”
Ten minutes later, we’re in the car heading towards the club.
The car is filled with tense silence. I’m a nervous wreck, my knee bouncing as I stare out the window. I have no idea what I’m going to say to Owen, but if it comes to it, I’ll tie the fucker up and hold him in the basement until he’s willing to hear me out.
He has people who love him, who care for him, and he needs to be reminded of that.
When we pull up to this abandoned-looking building, I grow confused.
“This is it?” I ask. “There’s nothing here.”
“That’s the point,” Logan says, cutting the engine. “They want people to think it’s an abandoned building.”
“Oh.” I blink, wondering what the fuck we’ve gotten ourselves into.
“What is Owen doing at a place like this?” Eli asks.
“No fucking clue.” Logan sighs. “But we’re about to find out.” Getting out of the car, Logan takes my hand. “Stay with me.”
“You got it, Daddy.” I bat my eyelashes.
He shakes his head, a ghost of a smile on his lips.
