That word hit me like a battering ram.

“You have a wife?” Jennifer and Daniella asked at the same time. “What the fuck?”

I gritted my teeth, ready to defend Finnian, but he proved he didn’t need me taking care of him.

“One, you’re not my wife,” Finnian growled. “Two, we’ve been divorced for longer than we were married. Three, I don’t know why the fuck you’re here, but GET THE FUCK OUT!”

All three of them flinched backward.

Lights shone in the night then, signaling the arrival of the police officers.

They got out of the car and headed up behind the women, who didn’t look concerned.

The next ten minutes were filled with explanations and cops criminal trespassing the three of them.

All of them were escorted off the property by the cops, leaving the foyer of Finnian’s home filled with four very angry looking men.

All of them had guns shoved in the back of their pants.

Half of them were wearing jeans. Half were in their underwear.

And all of them looked ready to strangle someone.

I chose to slip back into the bedroom and get dressed.

I got Finnian’s shirt halfway over my head before it was ripped off completely.

I was gasping in surprise when my body was manhandled in a way that my back hit the wall and my feet were dangling off the floor.

Finnian’s cool, assessing eyes weren’t so cool anymore. They were hot and angry.

“You won’t be talking to your sister and your aunt ever again,” he growled.

I licked my lips.

“She’s your sister, so I won’t hurt her. But she will learn a lesson today that she’ll never repeat.”

“W-what’s that?” I asked nervously.

“That when I tell her to leave, and not involve you in her shit anymore, I’m not kidding,” he growled. “She’s sent you literally a thousand text messages in the last four days alone. All of them focusing on her and Eugene. I discreetly sent her a message yesterday to leave you alone and not involve you, and she didn’t listen. She’s not your responsibility, and neither is your aunt. They damn well knew that they’d be waking you up, and I’m not having that. You work a lot, and they knew you were at a funeral yesterday. They should’ve let you sleep when I asked them nicely the first time.”

I melted. “You reached out to her to tell her to stop for me?”

I was literally experiencing the biggest burst of love I’d ever felt in my life.

No one except for Romeo had ever stood up for me when it came to Daniella. It was like my family was physically incapable.

“Yes.” He leaned forward, his hard, lean body pressing against mine in the most delicious of ways. “You were going to try to leave me, weren’t you?”

I was.

“My family is a mess. And you don’t need to deal with that right now,” I admitted.

“You don’t know what I need.”

Then he kissed me, his mouth slamming down onto my own with such fierceness that our teeth clicked together.

I gasped, and he took full advantage, his tongue sliding inside to devour my mouth.
