And Bryan, her heart said before she could shut it down.

“I want to know that I matter to you as you matter to me. That we can go back to being Bear and Rabbit in our cave brewing tea and eating popcorn while the rest of the world rages around us.”

“You’re right.” This time it was Teagan who reached out. “We are vastly different and react differently, but that doesn’t mean I should disrespect your feelings. What you add to this house, the girls’ lives, and Mom and Nonna’s business is uniquely you. And I never stopped being the Bear to your Rabbit.”

Harley felt tears burn in the pit of her stomach and start to radiate out to her chest. “It was just coffee.”

“It was so much more. We landed our second official account.Youlanded it. In order to sell the bread into restaurants, we have to cook out of a commercial kitchen. Which is what I was looking at when you came in.” She turned the screen so they could both see. “I’ve narrowed it down to five, but I need a dreamer’s perspective.”

“Well, not only am I a born-and-bred dreamer but I am a master at picking out real estate online.” A skill that came from spending the past decade moving from one city to the next, chasing a dream she wasn’t sure she wanted anymore.

“How about that one?”

Teagan’s face lit up. “I know, it’s my favorite too. But it’s bigger than what I need right now.”

“You don’t know what you need. Not until you reach out to every restaurant and café in town.” Not to mention the other clients Harley had solicited for Bread N Butter, which had recently become a family partnership.

Teagan let out a sigh. “I don’t have enough money for the down payment, and I don’t want to grow too fast and blow what savings I do have.”

“Why not think big? You sell out at every farmer’s market. You already have a trial period arranged with the hotel. Now you signed with a big client this week. And that’s just from handing out flyers. Imagine what we can do if we go at this hard.”

“What are you not telling me?” Teagan asked.

“We may be hearing from the Coffeekat about your sandwich rolls and scones. I convinced them that they are open to a change in suppliers.”

Teagan leaned over and kissed Harley on the cheek. “I never would have thought about approaching those people. I know I can be rigid and off-putting, but you, you rock this.”

“Targeted messaging is my jam. Baking is your expertise. Which is why you shouldn’t limit yourself. You got this.”

“I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew. The divorce really cleaned me out.”

“Correction. Frank cleaned you out. But don’t underestimate yourself. Don’t overthink this, just do it. For once, do something for you.”

“That’s exactly what I was telling Colin the other night. I want something that’s just for me.”

“Teagan and Colin sitting in a tree, F. U. C.—”

Teagan put her hand over Harley’s mouth. “It’s not like that.”

“Not yet, but it will be.”

“You don’t know that.”

Harley pointed to Teagan’s face. “Now I do. You totally went beet red when you said his name.”

“Maybe it will.”Oh,it will. Her sister’s expression said everything.

“Are you okay with that?”

“I’m not sure. It’s a huge risk but surprisingly I’m not scared.”

“Then don’t be afraid to take risks in your professional life. Throw out your playbook, Bear. For once, Rabbit is the expert. It’s time to make your dreams happen.”

“Wow, did we just have an adult conversation without being reduced to acting like toddlers?”

They both turned to look at the twins, who were playing quietly, helping each other put together a wooden puzzle.

“You know, we can learn a lot from them.”
