Noah pulls his attention from his laptop to look at me. “Hmm?”

I lift my chin at Grayson and Caitlyn flirting. “He moves fast.”

Noah glances at them and returns his focus to his laptop. “You'd be amazed.”

“I don’t think an inter-office relationship is a good idea.”

“You don’t have to worry about that. Grayson just got out of a relationship. He’s not looking to get back into one.”

“You don’t need to be in a relationship to have sex.”

Noah’s head whips in my direction. He locks eyes with me, his brows so high they’re lost under his long bangs.

I shrink under his quizzical gaze.

“What’s going on, Bray?”

“Nothing.”

“You seem awfully interested in Grayson’s sex life.”

“I’m not. I’m just worried for the office.”

He doesn’t look convinced. I don’t blame him. I’ve never spoken this much about anyone to him. I’m confused by it myself.

He scrubs a hand down his face and sighs. “Please don’t take an interest in Grayson.”

“I’m not,” I blurt. “Why would I?”

“Because he’s him. I’ve known him my whole life, and where Grayson goes, the ladies follow. Honestly, I’d be more surprised if you weren’t attracted to him. Just keep your distance.”

“That will be hard since I work with him.”

“I mean, be friendly but don’t go trying to solve his problems. I know you. You like to help people in any way you can, and Grayson has a ton of issues at the ready. If you give him an inch, he’ll take a mile. He’s a good guy. A great friend. But he’s not the kind of guy you need messing with your head right now.”

“Why do you think he’d mess with my head?”

“Because that’s what he does. Not intentionally. But he does. If and when you’re ready to date again, you need a guy who can take care ofyou, not the other way around.”

I nod, understanding him but disagreeing. I don’t need anyone to take care of me but me. A guy would only complicate that equation. Doesn’t mean I don’t miss feeling wanted. Lately, I've even been missing sex. Not that it was ever great for me. Before the accident, I’d only slept with two guys. Each had been my boyfriend.

Jace had been my first. I thought I loved him and that he loved me, until I discovered he had a girlfriend at another school. He didn’t deserve my V-card. I slept with my second boyfriend after we’d been dating for a few months, and only after making sure he didn't have a secret girlfriend.

I didn't love him, but I thought I was on my way, and he'd waited long enough. The sex wasn't any better with him. Even after a few more tries, the experience didn’t improve. For me, anyway. So we broke up. I wasn't that sad, either. We weren't a good match.

But lately, I've been dreaming about steamy sex, the kind where both participants orgasm. When I get back into the dating world, I'd like to find a guy who cares enough to give me my first.

I bet Grayson could fulfill that wish for me. Not that he'd want to, or that I'd let him. Noah is right. He’s not the guy for me. He’s my roommate and co-worker. And now he’s ushering Caitlyn out the door.

What the…?I shoot to my feet.

Grayson glances over his shoulder and waves at me. “We’ll be back.”

Noah doesn't even pull his gaze from his laptop. He gives them a thumbs-up and shouts, “Okay.”

I plant my hands on my hips. “Where is he going?”

“I don't know,” Noah says, uninterested. “To get coffee? Donuts? One of the two, I bet. He’ll be back.”
