Preston: I get out in five days. Date #1 in six days. Can we do it?

Dexter: You know we can.

Trevor: Dex lives for this shit.

Colton: Count me in!

Halton: I’m with East. Good luck, though.

Ashton: What the hell happened to the two of you? Grumpy mofos.

Preston: (eye rolling emoji) Great, Dex. What’s the plan?

(Colton added Easton to the conversation at 9:47pm)

Easton:Jesus Christ.

Walkinginto our home is an almost religious experience. I never expected to return, so everything looks different. Seeing it with new eyes, I realize there is nothing here that screams ‘ours’.

“Ems? Do you like it here?”

Mid step, she turns to look at me. “What do you mean? Here, like, at your house?”

“That’s what I mean. I don’t want you to think of it as my house. Everything is ours. I want it to feel like ours.”

Her face softens as she takes me in. “Preston, it’s just new, that’s all. I love it here.”

I wrap her in a hug but don’t fully believe her. Tomorrow, on our first official date night, I’ll find out the truth.

The doorbell rings rightat six p.m. Colton may be a special version of Peter Pan, but he never lets me down.

“Ems?” I yell from the bathroom where I’m hiding. “Can you get that?”

“Got it,” she says as I hear her walk down the hallway.

Poking my head out the door, I wait for her reaction.

“Colton? What the hell are you doing?” She laughs.

“You, Cinderella, have an engagement to get to,” he says, rolling his hand as he bows.

Jesus, he went all out. He’s wearing short pants with knee-high socks and everything. Coming up behind Emory, I stifle a laugh.

“Where did you get that outfit?” I finally cave and ask.

“Costumes For You,” he says proudly. “Are you ready, madam?”

“Ready? Where are we going?”

“Step one in showing you I’m never letting you go. Come on, you don’t need anything,” I take her hand in mine and tug her toward the door.

“But, but you haven’t been cleared to do much, Preston.”

“It’s a good thing we aren’t doing much then, isn’t it?”
