“You’re up, handsome. Good luck, flowerman.” She gives me a quick kiss, and I try to soak up some of her strength. With Sara clinging to my pant leg and Harper in my arms, I take my first step and decide to go all out.
“Hey, Sara?” Little blue eyes look up at me, and I stick out my tongue to blow her a raspberry. “Can you do this?” I ask, taking some of Harper’s petals and throwing them in the air. Both girls stare at me with wide eyes, then squeal in delight as they start making noises with their tongues and throwing petals, mostly at me, but they’re happy.
I really get into character, and we flamboyantly float down the aisle, merrily sticking out our tongues. The cheers and laugher from family and friends eggs them on with every step. This is the life I’m going to miss out on. The thought makes me pause. Rubbing a hand over my heart, I continue moving so Emory doesn’t notice.
I should have known better. As soon as we reach the end, I hand off the girls to the grandmothers and take my spot next to Dexter but feel Emory boring a hole into the back of my head.
“It’s a good thing Julia couldn’t see that display, you know?” Dexter whispers.
I can’t help the smile that crosses my face.“She will definitely have my balls for that one. But we made it without any tears, right?”
“No tears until Jules watches that video,” Trevor chimes in.
“She won’t be able to forget it, that’s for sure.” My smile catches in my throat at the concern I see in Emory’s face across the aisle. My eyes never leave hers, and I miss the entire ceremony daydreaming about what-ifs.
Chapter 34
Emory
“Have you seen Lexi?”
Craning his neck, Preston peers around the room. “No, but now that you mention it, Easton’s missing, too.”
He doesn’t seem happy about that.
“Why are you so adamant they’re bad for each other?” I ask out of curiosity.
“Listen, I love my brother, but since my dad died, Easton has been the grumpiest mother fucker I’ve ever met. He would do anything for you, but he’s an asshole. And Lexi? I just think she has been through enough shit. She doesn’t need his baggage, too.”
“Can I have all my girls on the dance floor, please? Okay, their partners can come, too,” a slightly tipsy Jules yells happily into the microphone.
“Speak of the devils,” I tell Preston, nodding toward the entrance where a very pissed off Lexi just entered. Easton right behind her, looking murderous.
“Fuck,” Preston and Colton say in unison, having both seen the same thing.
“You better go cut in,” Preston tells his younger brother. “Get Lexi on the dance floor and tell East to cool the fuck off for a while.”
Preston and I are making our way to the dance floor when I hear, “Not fucking today, Colt. Back off.”
Turning my head, I see Easton dragging a pissed off Lexi behind him, trying not to cause a scene.
“Is dragging your woman a Westbrook trait?” I laugh.
“Apparently.”
“Yay! Look at how gorgeously amazeballs all my ladies look tonight.”
“Oh boy, she’s more than tipsy,” I whisper.
“He’s got her,” Preston says, pointing to Trevor, who stands off to the side, admiring his new wife.
I notice Preston is giving East the side-eye. He’s holding onto Lexi’s hand in a vice grip, and it doesn’t seem like she’s going anywhere anytime soon. What the hell is going on with those two?
“So, now they all have red dresses on, and we can finally dance to ‘The Lady in Red’ by Chris De Burgh, just like when we were kids,” Julia is still babbling. “Maestro, cue it up.” She giggles. Julia is living her best life.
Preston wraps his massive arms around my waist and pulls me into him. We are so close I can feel his shaft twitch. He is in no condition for anything, but apparently, no one told his dick that.
“Can you do telekinesis?” he asks. “Because you’ve been making a part of me move all night without even touching it.”
