“Yup.”

“I don’t think that’s how it works.”

“It’s a good idea, Lex. I know it is. Be my team tonight.”

“Just tonight?”

“Whatever you can give me.”

Staring at the plastic ring, an enormous sigh of relief exits my lungs. Thank God, it was all just pretend. I think. I’m mostly sure, anyway.Right? If we’d really gotten married, there’s no way I’d have a plastic ring.

What the hell, Lexi?Obviously, I cannot be trusted with that man. I have to get out of here. Maybe it’s time to move home with GG until I can get my shit together. I can’t keep ending up in bed with him. He deserves so much more, even if he is a grumpy asshole sometimes.

Removing the ring, I place it on the counter. Thankfully, I packed last night thinking I’d be sleeping in as late as possible today. After throwing on a T-shirt and denim shorts, I sneak out of the room. East is fast asleep on his side, his muscular back rising and falling with each breath.Jesus, he’s sexy.

No, Lexi. Keep moving. Go.

Without another glance, I leave the suite and head straight for Lanie’s room. Hopefully, she won’t mind if I shower there. I’ll have to make up some excuse about mine not working. When I press the button for the elevator, my gaze lingers on my ring finger. No what-ifs, Lexi. It won’t do you any good.

Shaking out my hand, I let go of the momentary longing and go in search of my cousin. I know I’ll have to see Easton on the plane, but I’m becoming a master of avoidance. If I can just get through Julia’s wedding in a few days, then I’ll go home and regroup. If anyone can whip me into shape, it’s my crazy-ass grandmother.

Easton: We need to talk.

Lexi: I’ll see you at work on Monday.

Easton: Jesus Christ, Lexi. This isn’t a joke. Vegas is following us home whether you like it or not.

What the hell does that mean?

The car carrying Lanie, Dex, their gaggle of kids, and I arrive at the tarmac first. Glancing around, I’m happy to see the other SUVs aren’t here yet. As soon as the car stops, I jump out and practically run to the plane.

“In a rush to get home?” Dex laughs.

“Something like that.”

“She’s hungover. She was out with Easton until five a.m.”

Did Lanie have to rat me out like that? Geez. Dex raises his eyebrows suspiciously, but I ignore him and find a seat.

“He’s a good guy, you know?”

I open one eye to find Dex sitting next to me.

“Who?” I ask, hoping the squeak in my voice doesn’t give me away.

“Who? Right, Lex. I wasn’t born yesterday. The tension between you two is explosive. I just want you to know, I’ve known East my entire life. He won’t hurt you.”

“I know. It’s not East I’m worried about.”

Dex stares at me like I’m a puzzle to solve.

“I’ve got issues, Dex. He doesn’t deserve my mess.”

“Don’t you think that’s a decision for me to make?” Easton’s deep voice vibrates through every fiber of my body, and I jump in my seat.

“Listen, I’m two for two with myget the girl plans. It worked for Trevor and me, so if you need my expertise, you know where to find me.” Dex grins as he vacates his seat.
