Easton: I know you’re coming home today. We are going to talk.

Lexi: I can’t.

Easton: I didn’t ask.

Lexi: I’m going home, Easton.

Easton: When?

Lexi: Boarding now.

I stare at the phone in my hand. She’s leaving. Lexi is leaving without so much as a good-bye, and I have to let her go. The pain that sat in my chest for so many years hits with the force of a tornado.Well, hello, broken heart, it’s nice to have you back.I hadn’t even noticed when she was here, but now that she’s gone, I realize she took away my hurt. She made me better. She pushed me, and I don’t care what she says. We were not a fucking mistake.

It’s been a week since she left, and I’m moping around like a fucking dillweed. It’s nine p.m. on a Friday, and I’m lying in bed staring at the ceiling when my phone chimes.

Lexi: I’m sorry.

Two words, that’s all I get after an entire week.

Easton: What are you sorry for, Locket?

I shouldn’t keep using her nickname, but I can’t help myself.

Lexi: If I give you a list, we could be here all night.

Easton: I don’t have anywhere to be.

Lexi: No hot date?

Easton: I don’t think my wife would like that very much.

Lexi: …

Easton: Want to talk?

Lexi: …

Easton: Goodnight, Locket.

Easton: Do you miss me yet?

Lexi: I miss working.

Easton: Come back.

Lexi: GG needs me.

Easton: Are you awake?

Lexi: No.

A chuckle escapes at her response. We’ve texted every day since she’s been gone, but she won’t talk to me on the phone. It’s driving me fucking insane. I need to hear her voice. When did I turn into such a pussy?
