“Bye-bye.”
Easton steps into my space, a sexy but devilish grin on his face. “Looks like we just scheduled date number two, Locket. I’m going to get changed.” When he leans in, I swear he’s going to kiss me, and when I don’t move, I realize my body is still a traitorous bitch. Kissing my cheek, he whispers, “I’m really going to like dating my wife. How many dates until you put out?”
And just like that, he ruins the moment.
“Ugh, you’re a pig. Get out of here.”
His deep, throaty laugh has my clit throbbing. So much for losing my sex drive after the hysterectomy. That needy bitch is alive and kicking today.
How many dates does it take for me to put out?No, Lexi. Geez. Even my subconscious is working against me.
Chapter 31
Easton
Mayor Baker is unlike anything I’ve ever dealt with before. But, after fifteen minutes with the guy, I understand why Lexi insisted on the make-under. I actually don’t mind it. The Levi’s are fucking comfortable, but she keeps referring to them as the dead man’s clothes, and my skin crawls at the thought.
“So, Mr. Westbrook …”
“Easton, please.”
“Easton. It’s so nice to finally meet you. You’ve been the talk of the Cryer for quite some time.”
I side-eye Lexi because I have no fucking clue what the Cryer is.
“Oh,” John gasps. “Lexi, are you telling me you haven’t added him to the list? It’s a town ordinance, dear. You must. Easton, give me your phone.”
I eye him suspiciously but unlock my phone and hand it over.
“He’s going to hate this,” Lexi informs him.
“Oh, he’ll get used to it. It’s nice knowing what’s goin’ on.” He hands back my phone as it starts blowing up with texts. Worried it has something to do with Ashton, I open it.
Unknown: He ordered the open-faced turkey sandwich.
Unknown: He’s so dreamy.
Unknown: I’ll give him an open face (peach emoji)
Unknown: I don’t care how Lexi got him into those jeans, but I feel like I should thank her for the rest of my life.
What the hell?
Glancing up, I notice most of the restaurant is looking at their phones or at me.
“It’s GG’s doing. It’s called the Town Cryer. She says it’s a safety measure, but really, it’s just a thread for gossip,” Lexi tells me.
“No, Lexi. Town news and important business are also spread that way. It’s a fabulous form of communication that has really brought Burke Hollow closer.”
If Lexi rolls her eyes any harder, she’ll pop a blood vessel.
“Anyway, Easton, I’m so glad I got to meet with you today. Fontaine is about as much fun to deal with as an enema.”
“I’m sorry to …” My words drift off as something, or rathersomeonecatches my eye. Someone who shouldn’t be anywhere near Burke Hollow. Patrick fucking Macomb.
“Beast?” Lexi’s voice sounds far away as my heart thrums loudly in my ears.
Patrick makes his way through the restaurant as if he owns it and heads straight for John.
