The next thing I know, I’m flipped onto my back, and he hovers over me. “You’re injured,” I gasp.
“And you’re mine.”
I swallow down the well of emotion those three words create every time and nod. “I’m yours. And you’re mine.” I groan when he lowers his weight onto me.
“I told you if we fell into bed, we would fall into forever. This is forever with me, sweetheart. In life. In love. In business. In my heart. And in our bed. You. Are. Mine.”
A ray of sunshine bursts through my smile, because his is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to be.
CHAPTER38
DANTE
“About damn time you made it home,” Grady grumbles, but his eyes shine when he offers me his hand.
It’s been seven weeks since I was shot, and we finally got the okay to fly home a few days ago with the promise of continuing with therapy here.
“Happy to be here, Grady. It’s been a long road.”
He nods and takes a suitcase from Saylor’s hand.
“You didn’t have to pick us up,” Saylor says, hugging him breezily. “We could have rented a car.”
“Not happening, Sass.” Grady walks ahead of us, and Saylor winks at me.
“Is there something different about him?” I whisper.
Saylor frowns and nods. “He’s not as—I don’t know. Grumpy?”
“I can hear you assholes. You know that, right?”
Saylor and I laugh, and I squeeze her hand. He honestly doesn’t sound much like an asshole anymore.
“The girls were too anxious to see you. They’re in the car,” he says, and I detect a hint of insecurity in his tone.
I’ve FaceTimed with Lena and Poppy every day. They’re still happily living in Grady’s apartment, and he’s helping renovate the salon. The sale will close next month, making Lena an official business owner. And Poppy has made so many friends that her birthday party this year will require at least two cakes.
But I don’t know what’s been happening between Grady and Lena, and my gut says it’s something.
The windows roll down as soon as they spot us, and Poppy’s ear-piercing screech turns heads a mile away.
I’ve never been away from her for this long before, and my heart trips over itself seeing her now. Her arms and legs are all waving at me from the confines of her car seat, and my heart thunders in my chest.
I love that little girl so much, and I hope now she can keep her wide-eyed innocence a little longer.
“Gwody, gets me outta here. Unca! Unca! Sassy!” All her words jumble into a mash-up that makes me laugh.
We pick up the pace, and I open her car door a second later. I wrap her in the biggest hug I can around the giant frame of her car seat.
“I missed you the mostest, Lollipop.”
“Na ah. I missted you, Unca.” Her voice breaks, and tears slip down her chubby little face.
“Aw, princess. Don’t cry. I’m sorry I was away so long.”
She wipes her nose with the back of her hand. “I wub you, Unca.”
My throat closes, so I kiss her forehead and climb over her to the middle seat. Saylor slides in on the other side, and I sit between my two best girls while Grady loads our suitcases into the trunk.
