“Good morning,” Lily said as she sat down at the counter. She wiped her eyes and checked her phone.
“Coffee?” I asked.
“Yes, please. Did Luc spend the night?”
“No, I’m not sure when he left. I fell asleep, and he let himself out.”
“I’m not usually into older men, but damn, Kylie. You did good.”
I passed her a cup of coffee, sliding the sugar bowl and almond milk towards her.
“Yeah. I’m going over there tonight after the game. I won’t be home until after work tomorrow.”
“Huh.”
“What, Lil?”
“It seems a little quick for all these sleepovers.”
Was it too quick? I didn’t think so.
“Well, he’s traveling next week. I won’t be able to see him for a while after tonight.”
The travel schedule alone would dictate when we were able to spend time together. If Luc was in town, I already knew that I would rearrange my own schedule to spend time with him.
“Are you sure that you’ll be okay with this being casual? You understand the science behind orgasms?”
I stared at Lily and waited for her to enlighten me. When she didn’t, I caved.
“What science?”
“When you orgasm, one of the hormones released is oxytocin. It’s the hormone that is responsible for bonding between mothers and babies.”
Of course a woman’s body would be hard-wired to get attached to the person responsible for their orgasms. Let’s addthat to the complete list detailing the lopsided biology of men and women.
“Are you trying to say that I’ll get attached if I have too many orgasms with him?”
“I’m just pointing out a biological fact. And you’ve never been attached before, but you’ve also never had an orgasm with a partner.”
I will not fall in love with Luc just because he made me come so hard I saw stars.
“I’m going into this with open eyes. Right now, it’s fun and sex.”
And blurred vision, but I’m not admitting that to Lily.
Lily stirred her coffee, staring into it before she continued, “Okay. I already see how he’s blurring the lines, though. Not permanent? But then he comes over and treats you like a girlfriend.”
“This is no different than 99% of relationships, only most of those we spend half the time wondering where we stand. I know he’s never going to wife me. I think it’s great.”
Actually, I didn’t know if I thought that was great. The honesty was refreshing and I wasn’t ready to give up the sex. That alone would be worth a few eye rolls from Lily, but it cemented my reasons for excluding my family.
“If you say so.”
“What are you up to today?” I asked, anxious to change the subject.
“I’m going to see my mother. She has a big meeting with my father’s attorneys later this week, and they have given her a massive list of documents she needs to provide. Unfortunately, she wasn’t very involved in the household finances; she has no clue what anything means.”
“Eek,” I said, lamely.
