“I’m glad.” Killian wrapped a firm arm around Chase’s waist. “I’m going to ask you some questions now.”
“A pop quiz?”
Killian bit Chase’s shoulder none so gently. “Very funny. Tell me why you came tonight.”
And Chase was warm and safe and relaxed enough to tell the truth. “Fridays. I’m used to Fridays.”
“Fridays will be our day, then,” Killian said easily. “No exceptions. What else?”
Was he talking about demands? That wasn’t exactly Chase’s forte—asking for things. Except …
“When it’s done, you have to tell me,” Chase requested quietly. “Explicitly. Don’t leave me guessing.”
“Good,” Killian said, like maybe he meant it. Like maybe Chase asking him for things was a privilege and not a burden. “I won’t leave you guessing. What else?”
Chase shifted on the bed, but he was locked in place by Killian’s hold. “I don’t know. That’s it, I think.”
“I have a few for you.”
Chase tilted his head back in surprise. “You do?”
Killian’s gaze was steady, even as his lips curled into a half smile. “I’d like to see you more often. Fridays will be ours, like we said. But would you be opposed to other nights? Or staying longer some Saturdays? Perhaps Sunday afternoons?”
Chase was so taken aback he couldn’t overthink it. It didn’t help that Killian looked unbelievably good, all flushed and sweaty with his dark hair hanging over his brow.
“Um, no. I’m not opposed.”
Killian cupped Chase’s face, pulling him in for a filthy kiss. “It’s settled, then,” he said afterward, and there was no mistaking the satisfaction in his voice. “Let’s draw a bath, shall we? And then you’re eating some steak. I’ve been told I cooked it to perfection, and I won’t sleep until you have a taste.”
Chase let himself be drawn up from the bed and led to the bathroom, following Killian’s lead in some sort of daze.
So that was it. They were … dating? Fucking? Seeing each other in secret, only more so? But not exactly secret, because Killian’s friends knew now.
They weresomething; that was for sure. Something Chase should maybe push to define, but he shied away at the thought of it, like a sore spot he couldn’t bear touching. To define it would be too …
Chase didn’t know, actually. It didn’t matter anyway. He’d be getting to see more of Killian; that much was clear. Getting more of this thing between them. And that, for Chase, was enough.
That was more than enough.

Chase
“You have any idea why Noah called this meeting?” Chase asked Spencer, shoving the alpha’s sock-clad feet off his lap for the tenth time in a minute.
“No idea.” Spencer popped his feet right back in Chase’s lap, wiggling his toes. “But you can give these bad boys a rub if you like, maybe help pass the time.”
“Oh, can I? Can I really?”
But Chase found himself digging his thumbs into Spencer’s arches anyway while they waited for Noah to arrive. Persistence like that should really be rewarded.
It was Friday morning of their spring break. All three of them had stayed in town: Spencer to work, Noah to make up his missed midterms, and Chase because he had nothing better to do. Well, he’dplannedto have better things to do, but he hadn’t seen as much of Killian as he’d hoped. It turned out professors had a lot of grading to do during the break. Plus, Spencer had wanted to hangout with Chase as much as possible when he wasn’t working, since Noah had been so caught up in schoolwork.
But the distance was surprisingly difficult.
Things had changed between them since the night Chase had shown up unannounced. They’d … deepened, maybe. Chase knew stuff about Killian now, both big and little. The novels on his bedside table were spy thrillers, for one, most of them set in World War I or II. Killian made his way through them voraciously, despite his impressive workload at the university. He was an early riser but often taciturn and grumpy before he’d had at least two cups of coffee. He took speaking engagements in the summer as a way out of the Phoenix heat, and he often consulted with other professors who needed help with any tricky statistics in their research. He liked feeding Chase, and he liked reading with Chase under his arm. He preferred when Chase reeked of him and nothing else.
What Chasedidn’tknow was whether Killian was as unsettled by this time apart as he was.
