“Both of our shifts start at six this evening,” Knox said.“With any luck, I’ll draw the floor again tonight, so I’ll be able to help if you need it.Otherwise, Greer can point them out. We’re both off tomorrow, so we can revise our plan at lunch if that works for everyone.”
When they all agreed, Dex and Tyler stood to leave.Greer continued to pick at Knox’s leftover hash browns, so he sat back to wait for her.
“Where do you think Knox and Greer went?”Dex asked as she lay next to Tyler, trying to catch his breath.
“Greer texted that they were going to a movie before heading back to your room so Knox can change for tonight.Do you think those two will ever get together?”
“I don’t know, but if they do, it could change how the earth rotates on its axis.I’ve never seen two people so at odds drawn together so inexplicably.”
Tyler only worked half days on Saturday, so after lunch, they had returned to the apartment to clean up.Dex had almost made it to the shower when she had literally picked him up off the ground from behind, hauling him to the bed.
Sure, it was a little weird to be with a woman who could break you in half if she wanted, but Dex wasn’t complaining.Maybe he had been right, and he really did harbor some odd kink for strong women.Whatever it was, he didn’t mind the effort he was putting in to stave off his heart, pushing its way out of his chest after he rolled off of her a half hour later.
“Do you think those men will show up tonight?”Tyler asked, rolling over so she could rest her head on his chest.
“Are you okay?”she asked, picking her head up to look at him.“Your heart sounds like it’s about to pound out of your chest.”She laid her head back down.At least he was a man who, no matter how hard she rode him, she could never say he wasn’t fully committed.
“Knox seems to think so.I trust his judgment. When his sister-in-law—yours too now, I guess—went missing, he left absolutely no stone unturned.Even used a Taser on his brother to make him help.If he says he’ll find these girls, I believe him.At the very least, he’ll die trying.”
“What is their relationship like?”
“Who?Memphis and Knox?”
“Yeah,” she answered.“Memphis said they’ve only really known each other for a year or so.It was hard to tell in the short time Memphis was here. The whole thing, having more brothers suddenly, just seems so—well, I’m still trying to wrap my head around it.”
“I know this, Knox would do anything for Memphis. But then, I think he feels the same way about you.Family seems to be important to him—all of his family, regardless of how he acquires them.”
Pushing off of his chest, Tyler got off the bed.She walked into the bathroom and soon Dex heard the shower turn on.She was standing in the hot water as it cascaded down her long red hair when he stepped in behind her.Turning around, she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“So tonight, you’re going to teach me how to be an undercover special secret agent, right?”Dex chuckled slightly, reaching for the shampoo behind her.One of his favorite things to do recently was to wash her long riot of red hair.
“Absolutely.Complete with a special decoder ring.”
“Well, in that case, we had better make the best of the time we have now.Just in case we have to spend the rest of the night saving the world.”
“Now, that is the best idea I’ve heard all day.”
