"We can drive around Oak Creek. Or we can go further afield. There's a nice eatery out of town we could give a try. I've heard positive reviews. Or we could just stop along the way somewhere."

"I kinda like that idea. Yes, let's just drive." She pointed out the windshield as he had done.

"Your wish is my command."

They fell silent, and she reached over to turn the radio up. Finding some classic rock music, she sat back and appeared to be enjoying the drive. A song came on, and she began to sing. It was a Nora Jones song that he hadn't heard before. It was all about turning her on.

Drea had a lovely voice, and he enjoyed listening to her soft words matching with the artist's. When the song was over, another one came on, and she also sang along to that one.

"You have a nice voice," he told her.

"Oh, don't be silly. I sound like I'm cackling. But whatever. I like to sing to songs that I know."

Do you do karaoke?" he asked

"Oh God, no. I'm a car singer only."

"Well, that's interesting. Why wouldn't you sing karaoke if you sing in the car? I bet you're good enough to win a contest."

"Oh no, no, no. I can't sing in front of a crowd. The very thought of it gives me the chills. You know that movie My Best Friend's Wedding? The karaoke part at the dinner? And how bad Cameron Diaz's voice was? That would be me. Yup, me at a karaoke bar."

Taylor laughed. He knew that scene.

"Okay then, sing away. Maybe I'll even sing along with you." That was something he hadn't done for years.

"Deal."

They continued to drive. The scenery was gorgeous, and she looked out the window as she belted out some of the songs.

“Time Warp” came on, and she let out a shout that startled him. "You have to know this one."

"Do I now? What if I don't?"

"Just shut up and sing," she ordered him.

He laughed and joined in, singing and realized he was having fun. She danced in her seat, doing all the right moves in time to the music.

She tilted her head and made a comical face while she sang about slipping to the right and jumping to the left with hands on your hips while wiggling in the seat.

Taylor cracked up, and her smile widened while she continued singing “Time Warp”. She was so full of life.

They hadn't gotten to know each other too much on their weekend, but they were now, and he liked everything he was learning about her.

Something was changing in him. He felt the shift, and Taylor decided not to fight it, not to overthink and to simply enjoy the day.

What will be, will be.

Did I really just tell myself that? Taylor shook his head. Yep, things were definitely changing.

Chapter Fourteen

I was having the best time. This impromptu road trip was exactly what I needed. I could literally feel myself relaxing and melting into the truck seat. It was wonderful.

This trip put our relationship into a different category. We weren’t just roommates now. We were friends.

And yes, I did secretly hope for more. Everything had been a whirlwind since I arrived. I was glad we knew each other from before, because it was helping me to settle in.

We were easy together. Which I hadn't expected with our very hot sexual history, and now we were getting to know each other. We were doing it kind of backward.
