“Stop.” He wanted to get her attention and calm her fears, not make her more agitated. Her eyes landed on him as she waited for him to continue. “Shifters are real. We’ve lived alongside humans since the beginning of time. It’s a secret that those who are privileged to know, do not share.

“Did you do anything to my mind last night?” she asked. He squeezed her hands and tried to ensure that she could see the truth in his eyes.

“I cannot control your mind. Shifters don’t hold that type of power,” he admitted truthfully.

“Why not?” She tilted her head as she studied him.

“That is just not a power that we possess. There are many things that shifters can do, but mind control is not one of them. You need to get ready for work. When I pick you up, we can discuss this more at length. I promise.”

“Okay,” she whispered. He expected her to bolt from the bed, but she didn’t. She paused and stared at him before nodding her head. He hated the doubt in her eyes, but he didn’t have time to try to convince her that everything would be okay. She had to act as if all was well when she went to work.

“Go shower and get dressed for work. We need to go over our story in the car to make sure you have it down, to make sure it’s believable. If we’re to eliminate your coworkers, we need to test them with our story.”

“Okay,” she murmured, throwing the covers off her. She moved to leave the bed, but she paused and turned to him. “I won’t tell your secret.”

He watched as she moved from the bed and into the bathroom, and the sound of the shower echoed in the air shortly thereafter. He leaned back against the plush pillows and blew out a breath. For him to be an alpha wolf, he knew that he could not just take charge of their situation and claim her as his wolf demanded.

In order to get Penny’s full trust, he was going to take it easy with her and answer any questions she would have. He knew what his wolf was trying to say. She was their mate and she belonged to them. He would claim her, but in order to do so, he would have to start with getting her to trust him.

He knew that she just learned of something that most humans would never know of, or would just ignore. He knew that she would be in shock at first. Acceptance would come later, but then trust would be one of the last stages she would go through. Once she trusted him, then she wouldn’t have any fear of his animal.

He would hunt down the person tracking her. His wolf wanted to sink his teeth into the arm or leg of the person causing her fear. He’d already received a list of her work acquaintances that were commonly known. They would check each of them out to ensure that they weren’t her stalker. It would take a few days to check them out without causing suspicion.

The sound of the water cutting off caught his attention. He had imagined them taking a shower together this morning, but her discovery spoiled those plans. He didn’t know how long it would take her to be comfortable with him, but he knew one thing, she was not moving from his bed.

One night with the little sex kitten and he knew that he wouldn’t tire of her. She was his mate, and his wolf wanted to explore her again. His tongue had tasted every facet of her curvy body, and it was demanding more. He wanted to hear the little sighs she’d made as he suckled at her breasts, or the groans as he thrusted deep within her.

He felt his cock grow hard at the memories of last night. He ran a shaky hand across his face, needing to push those thoughts aside. He had a job to do. He swore that he would protect her and rid her of her problem. His ears perked up at the sounds of her moving around in the bathroom, so he waited on the edge of the bed as the handle on the door turned.

Doubt entered the back of his mind. Would she accept him as he was? He knew that they had just met, but he had waited a lifetime for her. What if she didn’t want to have anything to do with him?

His wolf sat up as the door opened. Drake was ready to do what he must to claim his mate.

Penny’s mindraced while she was in the shower. A fucking shifter? They really did exist! She wondered if vampires existed too, or if they were a myth. She would have to ask Drake. She swallowed hard as she stalled in the bathroom. She could tell that he was being cautious with her after he told her his secret. She was honored that he would entrust it to her. He could have just lied and told her that she had imagined it. She knew deep down that he was an honorable man. If he served in the service with Tommy, then she knew he was to be trusted. Tommy wouldn’t have just sent her to anyone.

He was to take her to work, but how was she to concentrate on what she needed to do? Even though she was so tempted to just say fuck it and not go back, she knew that wasn’t the best thing to do. She had already stayed longer than she had planned, because she was just that type of person. She wanted to make sure that all of her clients and coworkers had a smooth transition before she quit.

Her first payment from the lotto had already been deposited, making her extremely wealthy. She had to get this stalker under control, and then she could sort through her feelings about Drake.

Their night together was magical. He had wrung out such intense orgasms from her, that she was still sore. Her clit pulsed with the memory of his tongue on her pussy. He took great care in making sure that she was satisfied. Throughout the night, he put her needs before his.

She put her hand on the door handle of the bathroom after ensuring that her towel was tucked securely. It probably didn’t matter if she was covered or not. Drake had touched and tasted every single inch of her body last night. Her nipples pushed against the towel with the thought.

“Now or never,” she muttered, turning the handle. She opened the door and walked through it.

Drake waited for her on the edge of the bed. She could see in his eyes that he was studying her, trying to gauge her reactions. She smiled slightly as she walked over to him.

Tommy trusted him.

He’d been a perfect gentleman with her since they’d met.

She couldn’t get enough of him.

It would take a little more than shifting to a wolf to scare her off of what she wanted.

“Hey,” she murmured, coming to stand before him.

He sat up straight on the edge of the bed, his intense eyes making her core pulse. Just one look and her body responded to him.
