“So we had a favorite spot?” Damara asked, turning to watch Gavin drive his truck down the almost empty highway.

The wind blew into the cab, and her hair floated in the air. She laughed, trying to hold it down. She pulled it into a quick braid while she waited for him to respond.

“We did.” A small smile graced his lips. His eyes flickered to hers for a brief moment before he focused back to the road.

“I feel like a stranger on the outside of my own life looking in,” she murmured, taking a rubber band from her pocket and securing the ends of her braid. Frustration filled her chest with the thought that she may never remember everything. It was hard hearing how her life had been before and having no memory of it.

A strong hand gripped hers.

Her gaze flew to Gavin, and she squeezed his hand tight. She could feel his strength calming her nerves and relaxing her wolf.

It was the alpha in him.

Her wolf ached to go to his. For the past few months, she had turned herself over to her wolf, and so far, she hadn’t led Damara wrong.

“Even if you don’t get your memories back, we can always create new ones.” He brought the back of her hand to lips and pressed a soft kiss to it.

Her breath caught in her throat as she stared at him and swallowed hard. She was desperate to remember what there was between him and her. By the way her body responded to Gavin, she knew it had to have been scorching hot.

“That sounds good,” she murmured, a small smile forming.

He turned the truck onto a dirt road and drove them a couple of miles more before bringing the truck to a halt. The wood surrounding them was breathtaking. The large trees stretched high in the sky, providing a lush coverage from the bright rays of the sun.

“We’re almost here,” he announced, exiting from the truck.

She glanced around them and scoffed. This beautiful landscape was amazing. How could this not be their spot?

The trees lined up, providing a natural pathway for them to walk underneath. She smiled as Gavin opened her door and held out his hand.

She didn’t hesitate in placing hers in his. His warm hand enclosed around hers, and he pulled her out of the truck. He effortlessly lifted her and placed her on the ground. She held back a groan when her body slid down his hardened body.

His intense, dark eyes stared down at hers. His hand cupped her jaw, tilting it up to his. He lowered his head to her and placed a soft kiss on her lips before drawing back.

Her eyes widened in protest. She wanted more.

The look in his eyes confirmed that he knew exactly what he was doing.

Teasing her.

“Come on,” he whispered. He grabbed a heavy blanket from the cab before leading her through the thick, tree-lined path.

“The place is amazing,” she gushed, taking it all in. Their hands were entwined, and she leaned against his strong arm as they walked underneath the rich greenery.

“Tonight the pack is going on a run,” Gavin said, looking down at her. “Why don’t you come? It would be good for your wolf to socialize with other members of the pack.”

“That would be nice,” she agreed. She had a hard time concentrating on what he was talking about. She breathed in his scent deeply, and her wolf pushed against her abdomen, wanting to break free.

“Here we are,” Gavin announced.

They stepped out from underneath their natural canopy. Her eyes captured the world before them, and she froze in place.

Miles and miles of the rolling lands of Michigan lay before her eyes.

“Wow,” she breathed. She took in miles of woods with the treetops lush in different shades of green. She turned and found Gavin laying the blanket near the edge of the hill. She moved to him and took a seat next to him on the blanket. Her eyes were glued to the magnificent scenery. She felt connected to the land as if her wolf knew the area.

“You loved coming here,” Gavin said, resting his elbows on his knees.

“I can certainly see why.” She nodded and turned toward him and took in his profile.
