“Dreven—”
“Our deal will still stand, Brianna.”
The line went dead.
“What deal?”
Damara jumped from her seat, startled by Gavin’s low growl. Her feet carried her over to the windows. Sliding her phone in her pocket, she took in the high moon. Her animal longed to break free and run again. Closing her eyes, she prayed that her memory would return to her.
Fast.
“Damara.”
She turned back to the room and met the eyes of her parents and Gavin.
“Dreven knew it bothered me that I didn’t have my memory. I needed to search for my family, to know if I was mated, to know if I had children. My wolf was unsettled, so I ran away before he could send one of his enforcers with me. It was something I had to do on my own.” She paused. Her eyes burned with tears with one look at her parents.
Her father squeezed her mother tight as they smiled through their tears at her. Damara turned her eyes and met Gavin’s.
“What deal?” Gavin’s voice dropped low. His wolf was demanding that she submit to him and answer the question.
She stared through her tears at the man she was positive she was meant to spend the rest of her life with.
“I promised him that if I was not mated and had no children, then I would return to him and mate with him.”

“It’s not her fault, Alpha,” Irvin said, coming to stand next to Gavin.
Today was the day Damara was seeing the brain specialist. They were standing in the waiting room of the hospital while Damara underwent a scan of her brain. Her mother had gone with her at the request of Damara.
His wolf whined at the thought that she hadn’t asked him. But he knew why. He could scent that she had been afraid of his reaction to the knowledge that she had promised to mate with the other alpha.
He knew that prior to her arriving back, she hadn’t even known he existed.
“I know.” He sighed, turning to her father.
The elder wolf’s face showed his concern, and Gavin tried to hold in his rage. He didn’t want the Jacksons to feel they were the blame for another wolf trying to get their daughter to mate with him. She had made a promise to this Dreven, but then she had promised herself to him before she’d even made it to California. They were fated mates and belonged together.
The offer of mating to Dreven was one out of convenience. Gavin prayed that the other alpha would show his face and try to take Damara from him. He would have one hell of a fight on his hands. There was no way Gavin would let her go.
“Just give her time. My baby girl will come back. She’ll get her memory back.” Irvin nodded to him before he walked away and took a seat.
Gavin knew what Irvin spoke was the truth. Damara would gain her memory.
The look on her face last night when she had been on the phone with the other alpha was still etched in his memory. He should have let her have privacy with the call, but deep down inside, he wanted to know what she would say to the other alpha. Had they been intimate? She had admitted when they were making love that there hadn’t been anyone else.
But did she have feelings for the other wolf? She must have felt something for the alpha if she had made a promise to mate with him.
He pulled out his cell phone and swiped the screen and dialed Spencer who answered on the first ring.
“What’s up, Gavin?” Spencer asked.
“Up security. I want someone on Damara whenever I’m not with her. Her California alpha may be on his way.”
“Got it.”
Gavin disconnected the call, knowing his beta would handle everything. There was no need to say any more. Spencer knew how much Damara meant to him. He’d fight tooth and nail to keep her by his side.
Dreven could try to come here to take Damara back if he wanted to. But he’d have to go through Gavin to get to her.
