She faced Sorin and moved closer to him. “And you were about to say?”

“Come with me?” He held out his arm for her.

She looked down at herself. She was desperate to change out of her performance clothes.

“You are beautiful, Athena.”

She glanced back up, and his eyes appeared to darken.

“Okay,” she breathed. She stepped forward and took his arm, mesmerized by the color of his eyes. She’d never seen anything like it before.

She walked along with Sorin, wondering where they were going. He guided her out to the main lobby of the casino. She had always loved the atmosphere and the decorations. The ancient Italian culture was everywhere. Now she knew he’d drawn the inspiration for the hotel from his homeland, it made sense.

The bustle of the hotel always left her in awe. There were people from all forms of life walking around enjoying the Turin.

“Do you like Las Vegas?” Sorin asked. He drew her closer to him as they strolled along the main isle.

She glanced around. A large man followed them. Turning back to him, she nodded.

“Yes. It’s a city that offers a lot of opportunities for someone like me. Also, my best friend moved here first, and she was the one who talked me into coming out here,” she replied. Athena looked over her shoulder again.

The large man was still behind them.

“There’s someone following us,” she whispered.

Sorin looked behind him and pulled her close, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

“That is Linkin, my personal guard,” he murmured against her forehead.

“Oh.” She glanced back over at Linkin, who gave her a slight nod. “Is your life so dangerous that you need a guard?”

“If you look around, there are a few men keeping an eye on me.” He paused and brought her to face him. He rested a hand on her cheek and ran his thumb along it.

Everything around them seemed to fade away. She could no longer hear the bells of games screaming. The laughter and music that surrounded them diminished. Athena only had eyes for Sorin.

“Because of who I am, there are people who would want to hurt me,” he said.

“Why?” She gazed up into his eyes. A sliver of fear entered her chest. Not for her, but for him. She unconsciously moved closer to him and rested a hand on his chest. She knew that chest to be solid muscle. He didn’t have the body of a businessman.

No.

Sorin took great care of himself. She didn’t know how he did it, but just the memory of his hard form against hers had her core clenching.

Down girl.

“Don’t worry about the reason. Just know that I can take care of myself and you will never have to worry,” he assured her.

He leaned forward and laid a kiss to her forehead. It was the sweetest gesture. If from anyone else, she would probably have been annoyed, but the feel of Sorin pressing his lips to her skin reminded her of the other places he’d littered kisses on her naked flesh.

For some reason, she didn’t know how or why, she believed him.

“Okay,” she whispered. Just the thought of him no longer being around her brought a great sadness to her.

What is going on? I’ve slept with him once! It’s not like we’ve been dating.

She swallowed hard and took the arm he offered her.

“Come. I want to walk outside in the gardens.”
