“Where do you think you’re going?” the forgotten man taunted behind him.
A piercing pain shot through Sorin’s back.
The man and his knife slipped from Sorin’s mind the minute he’d focused his attention on Athena.
Sorin flew around with his vampiric speed, capturing the man in his arm. He held the male by his neck. His breaths were hard to catch, and pain radiated from where the knife was stuck deep into his flesh.
Blood.
The scent of the human’s blood reached his nostrils. Hunger pains struck him.
He needed to feed.
And he had the perfect specimen in front of him.
“Get away from her,” Sorin growled again. He tightened his grip on the male’s throat.
He tried to fight Sorin’s hold but was no match for a vampire’s strength.
With the moonlight shining down on them, Sorin saw the fear on Athena’s face.
He had to fight the urge to sink his fangs into the man’s neck.
“Look at him. He’s going to bite Alan,” the woman warned Athena, gripping her arm.
“No, he won’t. You all are messed up in the mind!” Athena yelled, struggling.
“She doesn’t know?” The woman’s voice ended in a high-pitched shriek. “You vampires aren’t supposed to hunt the innocent. Isn’t this breaking your own laws?”
Sorin cursed. The woman was rambling entirely too much.
“Sorin, what is she talking about?” Athena grew still and stared at him. Her eyes widened while she waited for him to answer her.
“I’d never hurt you, Athena,” he snapped around his fangs. He caught sight of Linkin and his men rushing toward them with their guns raised.
“What is going on here?” Linkin demanded, his hard gaze surveying the scene.
The woman holding Athena jumped, turning around and waving her stake in the air.
“Don’t come near me!” she shouted, releasing Athena.
“Take her,” Sorin snarled. They would use the woman as leverage, but the man, Alan, he was going to be Sorin’s snack. “Get Athena away.”
Quinn and Deuce circled the woman and easily disarmed her. They dragged her off kicking and screaming. Joris and Taos moved around the area, ensuring there were no other threats.
“Sorin. I’m scared. What’s going on?” Athena asked.
Tears slid down her face, and he knew she was two seconds from losing her shit.
“Linkin, take Athena to my quarters,” he growled, no longer able to control himself. “Now.”
Alan continued to struggle, obviously knowing what Sorin wanted. His fingers dug at Sorin’s, trying to free himself.
“Please, Miss Chambers. This way.” Linkin tried to guide her away, but she pulled back from him.
She rushed toward Sorin, but Linkin grabbed her.
“Go, Athena!” he urged, not wanting her to see his true self just quite yet.
