Vampires couldn’t tolerate sun.
At least not in the movies.
Athena shook her head with a dry laugh.
She was officially going crazy.
A click sounded behind her. She whipped around in time to watch the door slowly open.
She stood still, taking in the sight of Sorin walking through the doorway. He pushed the door closed behind him, not breaking her gaze.
Now, he was dressed in a dark button-down shirt and jeans, leaning back against the door as if he were fresh from a shower.
The silence was deafening.
“Is what those people said true?” Her voice was low. She prayed it hadn’t shook. She was so confused at the moment, she didn’t know what to think.
Her mind just couldn’t process what she’d been hearing.
Vampires?
Sorin took a few steps toward her and paused. He must have seen the way her body stiffened.
“Athena,” he began.
She held up her hand, cutting him off. “Was she telling the truth? Are you a monster?” she asked carefully. She internally cringed at the sound of her voice shaking.
“Athena.” Sorin paused, running a hand along his face.
He narrowed his eyes on her, and her breath caught in her throat.
“I would never hurt you. We have a special connection. I know you feel it.”
She swallowed hard. “That’s not answering the question.”
Her gaze flickered to the door. She wondered if she could make a break for it. There was no other way out of the room than past him.
“There are things that you will not understand. We need to speak—”
“I saw you bite that man!” she shrieked. Her body trembled at the vision of him sinking his teeth into the neck of that man before she was rushed away. Her heart slammed against her chest.
The walls were closing in.
She couldn’t breathe.
A scream boiled up inside her. Her legs grew weak. She reached out a hand, trying to steady herself, but her body wasn’t cooperating.
She was going to fall.
Her body tilted, and before she could even blink, Sorin was in front of her, wrapping his arms around her and holding her close to him.
“How did you—” She stared up in awe at him, at a loss for words.
There was no way a person could move that fast across the room.
Sorin stared at her with his dark eyes. He rested a hand along her cheek. “As I said, we need to talk.”
Her gaze dropped down to his lips, seeing sharp fangs peeking from underneath them.
