Chapter Thirteen

“Athena is performing tonight, and I want someone on her at all times. If I am not with her, then you will need to assign a vampire to her,” Sorin instructed Linkin.

He sat in his chair behind his desk while his vampire soldiers stood before him. Deuce, Quinn, Taos, and Joris stood behind Linkin.

As much as he would have loved to remain in his bed with Athena, duty called. He’d dragged himself from the warmth of his woman and left her slumbering.

His men were fine warriors, and he would be comfortable with any of the five to guard his newly claimed mate.

He no longer had the cravings. His mate had satisfied that need to feed.

The strength he normally got from feeding on regular humans or drinking blood from a cup was nothing compared to the rush of power he received after drinking from his mate.

“Consider it done,” Linkin replied.

“Some of us would be sleeping now.” Devin yawned from her seat by the bookcase. Her fingers were flying across her laptop siting on the small table she’d dragged over in front of her.

“Stop your complaining. You are well compensated,” Sorin muttered, rolling his eyes. This conversation he needed to have with his team was too important.

He didn’t care that the sun was now up.

If he was up during the day, they would be, too.

“I think I may have something on Clay Weber. My contact emailed me. Let me see what we have.” She bit her lip and grew silent while typing.

Sorin knew when she was on to something. There was nowhere her target could hide.

“Now I want to know how those hunters got into the gardens and what you were able to learn from them.” Sorin leaned back in his chair and focused on Linkin.

The hunters had almost got their hands on Athena. It was unacceptable, and someone would answer for it.

“They created a distraction. They knew if they sent their fellow hunters through the front door of the casino that we’d be on it. I have personally ensured that it will never happen again,” Linkin announced.

“Hunters were in the casino?” Sorin tilted an eyebrow. That was ballsy. No wonder his security had gone haywire.

“Yes, with weapons in their hands. With the new regulations from terrorist shootings, our security team was all over it. There were no reported injuries. The targets are now sitting in a human jail,” Linkin said.

“The woman, she sang like a bird,” Deuce announced.

Sorin’s attention switched to the large vampire. His skin was as dark as night. His hair was locked into dreads that rested on his broad shoulders.

“Oh?” Sorin lifted an eyebrow. “What did she have to say?”

“The same old bullshit the hunters always give. Vampires are an abomination and they will kill us all.” He shrugged. “Nothing really helpful. You were the target.”

“But why just two humans?” Sorin questioned. He stood from his desk and paced. It was insulting for two humans to be sent to try to take out the vampire clan leader. Surely Clay Weber realized that he wasn’t dealing with just any regular vampire. That meant the human would be dangerous and unpredictable. “It’s time we went on the attack. No longer will I play this game with the hunters. We vampires will make our move now.”

Grunts resonated around the room.

“Bingo!” Devin exclaimed from her side of the room. “I’m sending this to the monitor now. You guys aren’t going to believe this.”

They all turned to the oversized television mounted on the wall. Photos appeared on screen. Sorin and the other vampires moved to stand in front of it.

“It would seem I owe you another a raise.” Sorin chuckled, scanning the images.

Linkin let loose a piercing whistle. “The hunters’ hideout. Photos, maps, blueprints, and is that the damn security code to their alarm system?”

“Oh, yeah.” Devin smirked, sitting back in her chair and crossing her legs.
