“Remind me not to get on your bad side. No telling what you could dig up,” Taos muttered.

“We could be ready by nightfall. If we attack tonight, they wouldn’t be expecting it,” Quinn said.

“He’s right.” Linkin nodded, turning to Sorin. “We’d have the upper hand. We could get the team together tonight. The humans won’t even know what hit them.”

“Looks like we’re going hunting tonight,” Sorin bit out around his fangs. Just thinking of a good old-fashioned hunting brought out the beast in him. His gaze roamed around the room, and dark stares met his. “We leave at dusk.”

The warriors bowed and turned, filing out of the room.

“Linkin,” Sorin called, needing his head of security. He motioned for Devin to remain where she was perched. He waited until they were alone. “It is time we start making arrangements to move to the Stronghold.”

Recognition dawned in both of their eyes.

“Congratulations, Sorin.” Devin smiled, standing from her chair. She rushed over and wrapped her arms around him.

Surprised, he returned the hug. In all the years he’d known Devin, he didn’t think he’d ever seen such a display of emotion from her.

“Thanks, Devin.”

She pulled back with a smile on her lips. Excitement lined her face as she backed away.

“It’s about time.” Linkin chuckled, holding out his hand.

Sorin gripped his longtime friend’s hand tight.

“Does Athena know where your taking her?” Linkin enquired.

“We’re leaving?” a soft voice asked from behind him.

Sorin turned and found Athena standing in the doorway. She was covered with the soft robe. Her hair tumbled around her shoulders. Her tired gaze roamed the room before coming to land on him.

“Athena. You should be sleeping,” he murmured.

She stepped into the room and walked toward him.

“It’s hard for me to sleep during the day,” she replied with a yawn.

He wrapped an arm around her, concerned. He didn’t like the little dark areas underneath her eyes.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

Linkin’s and Devin’s eyes zeroed in on Sorin’s claiming mark on Athena’s neck. Any vampire would see with one look that she was a human who belonged to a vampire.

No one would touch her.

She belonged to him.

“I was informing Linkin and Devin that I am going to take you to my home.”

“This isn’t your home?” Confusion entered her eyes.

He shook his head and laid a kiss on her forehead. “No, my siren. This is my home away from home.”

“We will notify the council,” Linkin offered.

Without asking, Sorin knew what Linkin was referring to.

He’d announce to the council that Sorin had found his fated mate and had taken his bride in the way of the vampires.
