If he stood there and told her they did exist, she’d be hightailing it out of his apartment.

“Would you like something to drink? I just returned from a trip but I’m sure I can find something—”

“I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m dead on my feet. I was really hoping to leave here and go home to crash.” It was getting very late. She’d been up all day. That was the breaks about working at night. While she was tired, Sorin looked like he’d just woken up and was getting his day started.

He jerked his head in a nod and stepped closer to her, closing the gap between them. He reached up and grabbed a wayward stand of hair that was blowing in the gentle breeze. Athena’s breath caught in her throat at the closeness of his body. He tucked the hair behind her ear. A tremble slid through her at the touch of his finger on her ear.

“Can I see you again?” he asked.

She was mesmerized by the darkness of his eyes. Her mind screamed for her to turn and walk away, but her heart made her feet stay still. His finger slowly burned a trail along her neck and came around to her chin. He tipped her head back, forcing her to meet his gaze.

“Um…” Her mind had gone to mush. What had she just been saying?

“Say yes, and I’ll personally see you to your car.” His thumb brushed her bottom lip.

She became lost in his eyes. If she didn’t know any better, they had grown darker, almost black.

Kiss me, she wanted to say. Who cared about how she was getting home? It had been so long since she’d been kissed. Her body was craving the touch of a man who would know how to handle her body.

Sorin would be that man,a voice whispered in the back of her mind. Her heart raced with the thought of him braced over her, thrusting his hard length inside her.

“Car? I don’t have a car. I usually call a cab,” she murmured without thinking.

His hand stopped stroking her lip, and his eyebrows shot up high. “It’s not safe for you to take a cab this late at night, Athena.”

“I’ve done it every night, and it’s been fine.” She smiled, reaching up and cradling the hand that was resting on her face. “But thank you for your concern.”

“It’s not all right. From now on, one of my cars will take you home.”

She blinked a few times and stepped back from him. What was going on? They’d only know each other for a short time, and already he was making demands. Hell, she was practically throwing herself into his arms.

“You don’t have to do that. Seriously, a cab is fine. I do it every night, Sorin.”

“Is it so wrong that an employer is concerned with the safety of his employee?” he asked.

She shook her head, speechless at the moment. It was rare for her to be rendered with nothing to say, and he’d done it to her twice tonight.

Not hearing her argue with him, he continued, “It’s settled. I’ll go have Devin ready the car.”
