Chapter Twelve
Sorin closed the door to his bedroom behind him. The shower in his en suite shut off. Athena had quizzed him for at least an hour, learning all she could.
He was pleased that she seemed to be accepting of everything he’d revealed to her. As his mate and future bride, she would need to know everything there was to know about vampirism.
They’d avoided all conversation of them and their future.
Sorin wouldn’t press the issue.
Now he had his mate in his presence, he had all the time in the world.
Soon they would speak of her accepting his gift of immortality.
As his mate, she would be able to live by his side for all eternity.
No longer would he be lonely. No longer would he crave the love of the woman he couldn’t find.
The sun would be rising soon.
Being a creature of night, he should be getting tired, but he had too much adrenaline flowing through him.
The door separating the bathroom from his bedroom opened. Athena appeared, wrapped up in a white robe. He walked across the room and met her.
“How was your shower?” He stared down at her and had to rein in his desire. Her skin practically glowed. He took notice of her hair plaited into two braids, giving her a youthful look. He reached up and caressed her cheek, needing to touch her.
“It was divine. It felt good to get all of that dirt off me.” She chuckled.
His rusty heart beat even harder as she leaned into his palm.
“Athena,” he murmured. His gums burned, and he refused to hide his true nature from her. His fangs descended, gaining their freedom.
“I had a few minutes to think,” she breathed, stepping closer to him, leaving no gap between the two of them. Her brown eyes were wide, and he felt himself getting lost in them. “I’m not afraid of you.”
“As you shouldn’t be,” he said fiercely. He would give his last dying breath for her.
“It’s hard for me to wrap my head around everything, but you said that fate is what brought us together.” She paused.
He nodded, sliding his hand along her torso and around to the swell of her ass. Her body fit perfectly against his. A moan escaped her lips as he massaged her. With his free hand, he tipped her chin back to allow her to meet his gaze.
“That is true. You are the only woman meant for me. You will never want for anything ever again.” He leaned down and pressed a hard kiss to her lips. “I have searched the world a few times over for you. Everything I own and have is yours. You will help me rule the vampire clan.”
Her eyes widened. “What?”
She tried to push away from him, but he held on to her.
“There is no running, my little siren. They will love you.”
“But…I’m human. Doesn’t that matter?” she asked.
“Not at all. Vampires and humans have mated and produced children together since the beginning of time. As you know, our bodies are compatible,” he murmured.
If he didn’t know any better, he would say she blushed at that statement.
He captured her lips again, but this time he couldn’t pull back. Her lips parted, welcoming his tongue. She pressed closer to him, sliding her hands up along his chest and settled them on the base of his neck.
A growl ripped from his chest.
Their kiss deepened. He yanked on the ties of her robe, pulling the sides open. He tore his lips from hers. His gaze dropped down to her curvy frame as the material floated down to the floor.
