The sons of bitches had his siren.

His Athena.

He growled and jerked forward, but hands grabbed him, holding him in place.

“We’ve got a situation,” Linkin’s voice grew cold. “The humans have your clan leader’s mate. I repeat. They have Sorin’s mate.”

Curses echoed through the communicators.

“They all die tonight,” Sorin bit out around his fangs. He narrowed his gaze on the building where the men had carried Athena.

It would burn tonight.

To the fucking ground.

With every single one of the humans in it.

Athena groaned, trying to fight her way through the fog. Her mouth felt as if it were stuffed with cotton balls. She tried to shift herself but found her arms restrained behind her.

“What the…?” Her voice croaked.

“Ah, welcome back to the land of the living, Miss Chambers,” a deep baritone greeted her.

Her eyes flew open, and she bit back a scream. She was in a room with wood planks along the walls. A man with the air of the military sat in a chair opposite her. He had a muscular build with his hair shaved close to his head. He wore dark clothing with black shitkickers. Her gaze dropped down to the gun on his waist and the knife in a sheath on his belt.

A few other men lingered around the room, staring at her. She glanced down and found her arms tied to the back of the chair with rope. The clothes she had on were now dirty, and she was without shoes.

“Who are you people?” she asked, her throat strained.

“You people? Well, isn’t that a strange way to ask your question.” He sat back in his chair and folded his arms across his chest. “But to answer you, my name is Clay Weber. I’m the leader of a special interest group—”

“The hunters,” she whispered with dread filling her.

Sorin had wanted to protect her from this group. These were the people trying to eradicate all vampires. Fear crept up into her chest.

“So you have heard of us. That vampire lover of yours been talking about us?” He cocked an eyebrow at her.

Athena knew Sorin wouldn’t rest once he was alerted of her disappearance. She would just have to play it calm and not panic. There were hundreds of cameras throughout the casino. It would only be a matter of time before they realized she was gone. She was to meet with Nick, and if she didn’t show, he would be searching for her.

She knew deep down that humans were no match for Sorin and his vampires.

She put on her megawatt smile and sat back, trying to appear confident and sure of herself.

“Only to say that he was going to kill you,” she murmured.

His eyes narrowed on her, and that false sense of confidence wavered, but she pushed through it.

She had to be strong.

“You’ve committed treason against your own kind,” he snapped. He stood and approached her. “For what? Those fucking bloodsuckers are killing our people. He’ll use you up. Suck you dry until you’re dead.”

“That’s not true!” she screamed.

Her heart raced. Without the words being said, she knew Sorin loved her. She was his as he was hers. She knew it deep down inside that what he had said was true.

They were meant for each other.

“Let me guess. He’s told you that you were the one. That he’d searched the entire world over for you.”
