It was embarrassing that over the years he’d had to love her from afar.

“Wait, what?” she sputtered.

He gave in to the urge to shift. His beast raced forward, anxious to be at the forefront. Even though the beast would be present, Maxius would still have control over the wolf.

His muscles cracked and reshaped. Maxius fell to the ground while his white fur burst forth. He released a groan from the sharp splitting pain of his canines slipping through his gums. His body morphed into his animal. Maxius’s senses became more defined and enhanced.

Glancing over at Kamila, he found her gaze on him.

His wolf released a snort and moseyed over to her. Relief filled him that she didn’t shy away from him.

Maxius nudged her with his head. She chuckled and gave in, rubbing his head.

“Hello, there. You are a beauty.”

Maxius’s wolf was pleased at her words. He almost preened in front of their mate.

Let’s go. We have a mission, Maxius reminded his wolf.

He turned away from Kamila and put his nose to the ground.

Immediately, he picked up on multiple smells.

Witches and wolves.

He walked over to where Hazel’s impression was the strongest. Next he identified Kamila’s. This must have been where she had knelt next to her grandmother. Had this been traumatic for her? Had she been crying at the death of her grandmother?

A growl slipped from him. The urge to kill whoever had caused his mate such pain was rising at an unbelievable rate.

He continued on.

He concentrated on the animals’ smells. He ignored the few raccoons and other forest creatures and focused on the unidentifiable wolves.

Who the hell were these wolves?

He picked up three different odors.

His wolf may not be able to tell who they were now, but he would remember.

Wanting to see where they went, Maxius followed their scents. They may have a three-day head start on him, but he made a vow that he would find them.

For Kamila.

Chapter 5

Kamila followed the large white wolf. She tried to push the image of Maxius practically naked from her mind, but the memory wouldn’t go away.

Not that she wanted it to.

Maxius was perfect.

From his well-defined pectoral muscles to the hard ridges of his abdomen, down to the impressive erection pushing against his shorts.

Kamila swallowed hard, remembering how the alpha wasn’t shy at all with his body.

As he shouldn’t be.

The man was built as if sculpted by the Greek gods.
