Kadir, Hazel’s grandson.

The wolves and witches lived together in the same town but didn’t mingle much. The history between the two species was a strained one.

Centuries ago, witches came under attack as a result of mass hysteria around the world. Any person who was thought to practice witchcraft was hunted down and executed. Society had wanted to wipe them out. Other paranormals had learned from the mistake of the witches by going public. Shifters, vampires, and all other species stayed hidden, not wanting the human race to turn their attention to them.

But wolf shifters had come forward to help the witches.

They became their guardians. Helped hide them. Protected them. Even mated with them.

The Wolffang Pack was no different, protecting the members of Eternal Flame.

All of that changed a little over a century ago.

A separation between Eternal Flame and the Wolffang Pack.

A single action tore a rip in the relations of the two.

“What do you want?” He sneered. Maxius didn’t appreciate the interruption of his day. If they wanted something from him, they didn’t have to sneak onto his property.

“You are being summoned.” Kadir smirked.

Maxius grew irritated immediately. He was the alpha, he was never summoned. He narrowed his eyes on Kadir. The warlock usually wasn’t in town unless his charge was. Maxius pushed down his wolf’s excitement over the thought that she was near.

“She doesn’t command me,” he snapped.

The three warlocks shifted.

Maxius grew defensive. His wolf was being corned, and he didn’t like it one bit.

“It’s not a command but a request.” Kadir chuckled low.

Maxius didn’t take his focus off the three large men.

He was not going without a fight.

If Hazel wanted to speak with him, then she knew damn well how to contact him.

“I hope he wants to put up a fight,” Dreds taunted.

If he wanted a fight, then Maxius had no problem delivering.

Something was off. Hazel would have come herself if she needed to speak with him. The priestess of the coven wouldn’t have sent her warriors to retrieve him. Over the past decade, she and his father had been working to repair the relationship between witches and wolves, but the damage had been done, and it was hard for them to trust each other.

“Don’t make us take you by force,” Kadir warned. He held up a hand, palm up facing Maxius, but all his wolf sensed was the threat.

His canines slid back through his gums and descended.

“I’d like to see you try to take me,” he growled. He shifted his claws, not ready to allow his full wolf to come forth yet.

“So be it,” Kadir murmured.

The three warlocks advanced on Maxius. The blond swung his arm first, missing Maxius. He dodged around and slashed out with his claws. Blondie blocked him and landed a blow to Maxius’s abdomen. He stumbled back with his animal slamming against his chest, demanding to be let out.

Maxius roared and rushed forward.

A surge of energy coursed through Maxius, sending him down to his knees. A blinding light blurred his vision.

He gasped from the pain. Glancing down, he took notice of the whip surrounding him. It had to be made of silver elements, for the material was burning his skin.
