“This,” Kelsey whispered.

“The Rose medallion?” Mythia froze in place. The memory of the night she’d won it off her friend came to mind. Paxton had lost to her in a fair game of cards. Their stakes had been high, but unfortunately for him, he paid the price. He was a man of his word and gave the medallion to her as payment. “What could you possibly want with that?”

Aside from its worth, why would she risk breaking into the castle to steal it?

Did her mate need money?

Mythia growled. She would pay all her mate’s debts. Her woman would never want for anything ever again. The vault was not too far from them, and soon, she would present her hoard to Kelsey. First, they needed to deal with the matter at hand.

“It belongs to my family.” Kelsey stared at the medallion with such admiration, tears rested on the tips of her eyelashes. “It was stolen from my family, and we—”

“I do not steal,” Mythia interjected. She took Kelsey by the arm and forced her to face her. “That medallion is mine. Whatever tale you’ve heard surrounding this medallion is false.”

“My grandfather wouldn’t lie to my mother.” Kelsey shook her head fiercely and snatched her arm back. “It belongs to my family, and I will take it back.”

She snatched the medallion off its post and gripped it close to her.

Mythia was hit with a strong sense of a dragon roaring off in the distance.

This was her territory, and no one should be invading it. The ground shook with a power that caused them to stumble.

“What is this?” Mythia growled. She was suddenly hit with a wave of power radiating from Kelsey.

“What’s going on?” Kelsey cried out, dropping the medallion as if it were too hot to hold. It bounced around on the floor before landing at Mythia’s feet. She pressed her hands to her chest and grimaced in pain.

The rocking of the building ceased.

“Let me see your hands.” Mythia took them into hers and carefully studied them. The redness of her palms was starting to fade before her eyes. She glanced down at the necklace. Was it warded against certain people? Why would it try to harm her mate?

And who the hell did it?

“What the hell just happened?” Kelsey asked. The scent of her fear was growing, and it sent Mythia’s dragon into a frenzy.

“I don’t know, but I’ll soon find out,” Mythia replied through clenched teeth. Her dragon sensed the other one headed toward her castle. It was moving fast and getting closer.

She would need to go out and meet this dragon.

Picking up the medallion, Mythia held it in her hands. It’d been a while since she had, and she’d never had a reaction like Kelsey just had.

She reached over for the velvet material it had sat upon. Wrapping it up, she handed it back to Kelsey. She would have to have Sascha come explain what the hell had just happened.

“What are you doing?” Kelsey cried out.

“Take it. I want you to go back to my room and stay.” Mythia wrapped her arm around Kelsey and brought her flush against her. She instantly transported them back to her bedroom. The room was warded against the strongest magic, and would keep her mate safe.

They reappeared in the master bedroom.

“Don’t leave this room.” Mythia spun around and marched to the door, sending a quick telepathic message to Sascha. This was urgent. There was no time to wait for the reply.

“Where are you going?”

“You will be safe here. My seer will come for you.” Mythia backed away from her mate before leaving the room. Once in the hall, she closed her eyes and vanished.

Mythia stood on her landing. Wisps of her hair broke free from her braids and whipped around from the strong gusts of wind.

She walked forward, taking in the rolling clouds. The sky had grown angry. Where the sun was perched high with its warm rays shining down on the town of Saxon Hills, now appeared as if a storm was racing toward them.

Only it wasn’t a storm.
