Mythia opened her eyes and looked up at the sky as she made her way down the stairs.

The hairs on Kelsey’s arms stood on end. She glanced over at Sascha, who was also staring up at the sky.

The sun going down and would be setting soon.

“What is it?” Kelsey asked. There was something coming. She could feel it too. She didn’t know what, but trouble was on the horizon.

The sounds of vehicles making their way along the road reached her. Kelsey stood frozen, praying Jasper and the guys weren’t going to do something stupid. She stared off toward the wooded road and caught sight of headlights.

There were a few trucks headed their way. Mythia turned and focused her attention on the trucks as they came into view.

“We must get the humans out of here soon,” Sascha muttered.

Kelsey’s head snapped toward the seer in shock. What did she just say?

“Why?”

The seer stood with her hands facing the sky, appearing to be in some sort of trance. Were the gods sharing something with her?

A chill skated down Kelsey’s spine.

“He’s coming,” Sascha murmured.

“You’re going to have to have your friends leave immediately.” Mythia leveled Kelsey with her intense gaze, her amber eyes glowing brightly.

“Okay. I’ll send them away.” She took the stairs and came to stand by Mythia. Whatever was headed their way, Mythia would take care of it. Kelsey was going to trust her mate and not ask questions.

The vehicles flew toward them and drew to a halt a few hundred feet away. Kelsey’s eyes met Jasper’s. She automatically stepped in front of Mythia as the men began exiting their vehicles.

“Kelsey,” Jasper called out.

She took in all the guys: Kevin, Harvey, Don, Alfie, and James, with a few others she didn’t recognize.

What had her heart leaping in her throat were the guns in their hands.

“Um, Jasper?” She moved to step forward, but Mythia’s hand shot out and took hold of her arm.

“Don’t go near them,” Mythia snapped.

“Let her go!” Jasper shouted. Lifting his rifle, he pointed it at Mythia.

“Don’t!” Kelsey shouted back with her arms raised, stepping back in front of Mythia. She didn’t want to chance her mate getting shot.

“You do not protect me, mate,” Mythia growled, her hands resting on Kelsey’s shoulders. She tried to move Kelsey out of the way, but she resisted.

“Jasper, I need you and the fellas to go home,” Kelsey called out.

“Fuck no! I’m not leaving without you!”

“I told you that I was fine.” He just had to be so damn stubborn.

Mythia wrapped an arm around her waist, lifted her, and sat her down on the ground behind her.

“She has told you twice to leave. She has been nice. If I have to tell you, I won’t be.”

“You can’t keep her hostage!” Kevin snapped. Kelsey leaned her forehead against Mythia’s back, praying there wasn’t a gun in his hand. It didn’t sound as if he had been drinking, but it was Kevin. He was a functioning drunk. Most times, people wouldn’t even know he was wasted.

“Who’s a hostage?” Mythia pulled Kelsey to her side and kept her arm around her. “Kelsey is far from a hostage. Ask her if she wants to leave.”
