“And don’t let me start on this matching system they came out with. It’s just another way for them to snatch humans. I wish I would have come up with such a brilliant scam.” Azura barked a sarcastic laugh. She bent down, her hand shifting into a massive paw.

Stormey leaned away from her. She watched Azura break through the ropes latched on to the cot to keep her in place. Both her arms and feet were free within seconds.

“The matching test works,” Stormey said. She didn’t know why she felt the need to argue with the lycan, but she refused to listen to her deny the authenticity of the test. She and Hegna were prime examples, as were Hegna’s sisters and their mates. There was plenty of documentation that it was a valid test.

“Whatever. You’re just a brainwashed human who has a kink for vampires.” Azura stood back, her hand returning to human form. She narrowed her gaze on Stormey who was frozen in place, staring at the lycan.

“Excuse me?” Stormey gasped.

“I know all about you. Do you think I would go through all of the trouble to kidnap the mate of the future queen of the vampires without checking into you? You are a human who wanted to be drafted and was lucky to be drawn to be the mate of the heir to the vampire throne,” Azura sneered. She motioned to Stormey. “Get up.”

“What are you going to do with me?” Stormey asked. She slowly slid her legs around and rested her feet on the floor. She didn’t know how long she had been unconscious. Her muscles screamed as she slid forward to the edge of the cot. She took notice that her cloak was gone, but the same clothes she’d worn to the orphanage were still on. She eyed the two other lycans who were staring at her. Their eyes flared bright with something that she couldn’t interpret. They stood as if they were dogs waiting on their master to give them an order.

Azura grunted and reached out and took Stormey by the arm. She dragged her to her feet and towed her behind her. Stormey winced from the tight hold Azura had on her.

“You, little human, will help me get the attention of the world,” Azura said.

Stormey immediately didn’t have a good feeling about this. Azura guided her across the room to the doorway through which she’d entered. They stepped through it and were in a small warehouse. The two men followed them without saying a word.

Stormey scanned the area and found more lycans milling around. Some of them threw glances at her but didn’t say a word. It was a little daunting seeing them all gathered near. Would they want to attack her? It had fallen silent as Azura led her through them.

The room was filled with boxes, crates, and workbenches. It was divided up into different sections. There was an area with long metal tables and chairs as if used for dining, and an area with a bank of computers with a few men sitting before them. Stormey’s gaze fell on the direction they were headed. There was a setup with lighting and a camera with a chair and a backdrop that looked very familiar.

Had Azura been doing her broadcast right under Hegna’s nose? Was this their headquarters? Stormey had so many questions. Azura took her to a chair by the camera.

“Sit,” Azura ordered. She thrust Stormey toward one of the chairs that was off camera.

Stormey leaned back in the seat as Azura bent down toward her.

“Don’t even think of running. My wolves would love to get a taste of fresh meat such as yourself.”

Stormey wordlessly nodded. Azura walked over to the men working on the computers and talked to them in a low tone. Stormey strained to hear what they were saying, but unfortunately, her human hearing wasn’t that good.

Stormey’s hands balled into tight fists. She felt all eyes on her. She may be putting on a brave front, but she wasn’t stupid. Her bravery waivered slightly. She glanced down at her hands and tried to keep cool.

Hegna would come for her.

Whatever emergency that had caused her to leave, was that a sham? It had to be. Azura had stated she had organized her kidnapping. Stormey shivered, not wanting to think what the lycan alpha had planned for her. She just hoped that Hegna would be arriving soon. She had never wished violence on anyone, but she did now.

Stormey hoped Hegna came and chopped the lycan’s head off.

“Where is she?” Azura asked a female who stood by her.

The woman kept her eyes down. She swallowed hard and hesitated to answer as if afraid of what Azura would do to her. “I don’t know.”

Azura growled and stepped closer to her. She brandished long, sharp fangs. The woman whimpered, attempting to make herself smaller. Stormey watched, almost feeling sorry for the female.

“What do you mean you don’t know where my sister is?” Azura snapped.

Her hand whipped out and took the woman by the neck. She dragged her near her, and Stormey was sure she was going to bite the woman or snap her neck.

“You go and get her on the phone for me now.”

“Yes, Alpha.”

The look of terror on the woman’s face sent a tremor through Stormey. Azura released her. The woman stumbled back and quickly righted herself. She spun around and scrambled to get away. She ran past Stormey as if the Devil himself was behind her.

Azura turned back to the men she had been speaking with as if nothing had happened. Stormey’s breaths were coming rapidly. Fear was officially gripping her.
