“And lycans would be better? You’d force us to become one of you—”
“You’d gain power.” Azura spun around suddenly.
Stormey crashed into her. Azura’s eyes were crazed, narrowing on Stormy. Her lips arched up into a sadistic grin.
“The vampires don’t share their gifts with the world. They just take what they want from humans until there is nothing left. Literally draining the life from you.”
“You don’t know what you are talking about,” Stormey whispered.
Azura had no idea. Vampires and their mates were happy. They felt the bond and honored that they were meant to be together. Hegna and her family were building bridges with the human government. They just needed more time for them to fully trust vampires.
“They don’t go running around changing humans because not all the humans would survive.”
“Same for lycans, but we are still willing to give our power to you puny humans. Imagine a world where everyone was strong, powerful, and lived long lives. You wouldn’t have to hide from the sun. The world I want to create would be heaven.”
“You’re crazy.” The words escaped Stormey’s lips before she’d even thought about it. But she wasn’t going to take it back. It was the truth.
The woman standing before her was downright loco. Azura threw her head back and barked a harsh laugh that sent chills down Stormey’s spine.
“I don’t know what I’m talking about?” Azura gripped Stormey’s chin and forced her head both ways.
A growl escaped the alpha as she leaned in and sniffed Stormey’s neck. She lifted her head, and Stormey hated the smirk on her lips.
“The princess who is supposed to be your mate has fed from you but hasn’t claimed you. Why is that?”
“That’s none of your business.” Stormey refused to explain her relationship with Hegna. No matter what the alpha thought, she was wrong on all counts.
Azura took her by the arm and dragged her behind her again. The sounds of growls and shouting grew louder. They bypassed an open door where a crowd of lycans gathered. She shivered, thankful they weren’t going in there. From what she’d heard, lycans must have been in there fighting for sport with onlookers.
Stormey lost track of where they were going. They burst through a set of double doors, and she froze in place. They were in the same warehouse as yesterday, only things were different. An area was set up as a studio, with bright lights aimed at the white backdrop. They had altered the studio from before, and what she saw had the fear in her skyrocketing. There was a mat on the floor, and next to it was a small table. A sword sat on it, and immediately, Stormey’s fight or flight instinct kicked in.
Azura truly planned to kill her on national television.
“No!” Stormey screamed. She struggled and fought Azura’s hold.
The alpha laughed, wrapping an arm around Stormey’s waist. She lifted her as if she weighed nothing.
“Let me go!” Stormey continued to kick and scream.
Azura carried her over to the mat. The other men and women in the room didn’t even try to help her.
They wouldn’t.
They were lycans and loyal to their alpha.
Tears flowed down Stormey’s cheeks. Azura dropped her on the mat. Stormey scrambled to move, but the alpha’s foot planted in the middle of Stormey’s back, holding her in place.
“Give me something to restrain her,” Azura growled.
Someone knelt next to Stormey and yanked her arms behind her. She cried out from the burst of pain that rippled through her shoulders. Her hands were forced together, and rope was tied around her wrist extremely tight.
Stormey let go and allowed the sobs to take over her. There was no way she could fight these lycans. She thought of all the things in life she wanted to accomplish. It wasn’t fair that her life would be shortened due to someone’s hatred. She’d had goals. Complete the bond with her mate. Motherhood. Fighting for the orphans and taking on the government to lower adoption fees. Helping bridge the gap between human and vampire relations. Have a long, fulfilling life with her mate.
Was that too much to ask?
Azura grabbed her by her arms and hauled her up into a kneeling position.
“Someone bring a towel and wipe her face,” Azura shouted.
