“And you call us savages,” he spat.

He struggled even more, but they held him for her. One of her warriors had an arm around his head now, locking him into place.

She smirked at him. Ignoring the jab. Throwing out names wouldn’t get him anywhere. She grabbed the arm nearest her and leaned her head down, sinking her fangs into his wrist. The moment his blood touched her tongue, she was hit with memories. It flashed before her eyes as if she were there with him.

The memories flew by, like flashes of light. Meetings in darkened caves. Ring fighting amongst lycans. A caravan moving along a familiar street. A truck slamming into an armored sedan. Images of Hegna standing before him with her dagger drawn. Her back while fighting another lycan. Then him grabbing her and sinking his fangs into her shoulder. Him running off at the sound of a howl. Lycans running through the woods. Standing before a woman who looked eerily similar to Azura. But it wasn’t her, and this woman appeared to be in charge.

Hegna lifted her head, now recognizing him. It was the large lycan who had bitten her. She glared at him, releasing his arm. His blood slid down her chin, but she didn’t wipe it away.

“Who is the woman? The one who called you lycans away that night?” she demanded. Hegna already knew. If she would have kept drinking from him, she would have probably got her answer. Too bad the memories didn’t come in sound.

His lips curled up into a devious grin. He jerked forward, but her men held him back. Hegna licked her lips and reached for her dagger. Her men held his head back, brandishing his throat to her.

“I am loyal to my kind,” he growled. His eyes were crazed, burning with rage as he stared at her. He continued to struggle against her warriors’ hold. “You’re going to have to kill me.”

“Very well then.” Hegna shrugged.

She swung her dagger rapidly across his neck. Blood gushed from the wound. His eyes widened as he struggled to breathe and swallow. Gurgling soon followed. Her men let him go, his body falling to the floor.

She spun on her heels and walked past Nezera. “Put a bullet in his head and burn his body.”

“What other woman did you see?” Nezera asked, following behind her.

The sound of a gunshot echoed behind them. They jogged up the stairs and once again were in the kitchen.

“There was another woman in his memories that looked just like Azura,” Hegna announced. She spun around and faced her captain. Hegna’s mind was racing with all different possibilities. If the daughter of Ariston had survived, then that would be how Azura was related to the deceased alpha. And if her mother had Azura, then there were quite possibly other children. “It would seem as if Azura has a sister. There may be two alphas we are dealing with.”

“Your Grace.” Bijou stormed into the kitchen.

Hegna spun around and immediately sensed something was off.

“What is wrong, General?” Hegna reached up and wiped the drying lycan blood off her chin. She walked toward Bijou. Something passed in her friend’s eyes that she didn’t like.

“You need to come with me,” Bijou said.

The hairs on the back of Hegna’s neck stood up on end. She glanced over at Nezera who appeared to be unaware of what Bijou was about to share with them. She followed Bijou out of the kitchen and back into the dining area. Someone had placed a television on a table. It was on, and immediately, Hegna recognized the voice of the person speaking. The warriors surrounding the television parted to allow her, Bijou, and Nezera through. Hegna stopped directly in front. She folded her arms and listened to what the alpha was rambling on about.

“I’m sure some of you are wondering what life would be like once I take over.” Azura grinned. The camera zeroed in on her. The lycan alpha’s hair was combed for once. Her long dark locks flowed over her shoulder. Her amber eyes were bright, and she almost looked manic as she spoke. “Just imagine life where you don’t have to be afraid to go outside your home after dark. You’d be able to walk down the street without the fear of not knowing if a bloodsucker compelled you, taking your blood.”

“And they would be safe from lycans?” Bijou muttered.

Hegna didn’t respond. There was something about this broadcast that didn’t sit right with her. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but this was different than the last one.

“Are we trying to track this down?” Hegna asked.

“Our men have been on it since the moment it started a few minutes ago. Since the last one, we’ve been monitoring the airwaves, waiting for the moment she did another one,” Bijou reported.

“Good.” Hegna didn’t take her eyes off the screen. She watched Azura as she continued to speak. The woman in the lycan’s memory had a very close resemblance, and she was willing to bet they were not only sisters, but twins.

Fucking twin alphas.

Working together, they would be more powerful.

“Your Grace. There is an urgent phone call on hold for you.” A warrior walked up to her with a phone in his hand.

Hegna held hers up. They would have to wait. She couldn’t miss what this lycan was talking about.

“Wait,” Hegna snapped.
