Layla
My heart aches reading the recent card Levi sent with beautiful pink tulips. “I miss you, Layla. Love, Levi.” It’s simply sweet and breaks my damn heart. Sighing, I slip it into my pocket and check my schedule for the day. Today appears to be a lighter day as long as we have no new injuries.
I look around the training room and make sure everything was cleaned and put away last night. We have half a dozen massage or patient tables, weight equipment, bands, parallel bars for leg injuries, medicine balls, rollers, mats, exercise balls a short row of NuStep machines, treadmills, ellipticals and other various exercise and weight machines along with tens units, handheld sonos and more. I’ve never seen anything so thorough. I have everything I could possibly need to do my job and more. Then on the other end we walk through our medicine and first aid area into a space with ice baths, jacuzzi tubs, and saunas. It’s incredible.
“Morning, Layla.”
I turn towards the deep voice and smile at my boss. He’s a nice guy, a couple inches taller than my brother, with a shaved head andridiculously strong. He’s married with his third baby on the way. “Good morning, Mr. Zetner.”
“We have two new trades coming in today. One this morning and one later today. I need you to do their intakes.”
“Got it.”
“Here’s the first,” he says handing me the file, “and I’ll set the second in your box.”
“Thank you.”
The first man, Craig, walks in ten minutes later and my day quickly gets away from me.
At the end of the day, Gabe walks in with a tired smile on his face. “Hey Sis. How was your day?”
“Good, but I haven’t gotten out of here all day. How about you?”
“Good. I’m going to shower and head over to see mom. Are you done soon?”
“I have one more new intake on a trade and then I’m done.”
He nods, the corners of his lips twitching up. “I saw the new guy. Taylor was showing him around. I’m sure he’ll be here soon.”
“I’ll see you later.”
“Bye, Gabe.” I wave as he backs out of the room.
Shuffling around, I prepare a patient bed and new forms for the intake before making my way to my inbox. Picking up the folder, I look at the name and my heart stops.
“Levi Brennan,” I whisper in shock, barely breathing.
“That’s me,” he says, his deep voice echoing in the now empty room.
Slowly spinning on my heel, the man himself stands in the doorway with a broad smile on his face. Sprinting across the room, I jump into his arms and wrap my legs around his waist as he catches me, laughing.
“Levi,” I cry, not able to fight the tears rolling down my cheeks.
He presses his face into my neck andinhales deeply. “Hi, beautiful.”
“I guess you two know each other,” Taylor mutters. Tearing my face away from Levi’s chest, I look at Taylor flipping his dark hair out of his light eyes, full of amusement.
“She’s my girlfriend,” Levi answers, not bothering to lift his head.
“I sure as hell hope so because we all know she’s not available and if you’re not him, she’s in deep shit.”
We all chuckle and I slowly lower my legs to the ground without letting go. “Thanks for bringing him.” Taylor nods, taps the door and exits without another word.
“Damn, I missed you,” Levi murmurs and presses his lips to mine, kissing me hard, messy, and desperate.
Forcing myself to pull back, I say, “I missed you, too, but how did this happen?”
Levi chuckles darkly. “Let’s just say that your ex was apparently good for something.” My eyebrows draw down in confusion. “He was traded to the Lions and I got into it with him. And today, I was on a plane to you.”
